Tsuchigumo[edit]

You'd think them driders or that Lolth ilk, but you'd be wrong.

Physical Description[edit]

A Tsuchigumo spellcaster (by Varkarrus)

Tsuchigumo are quadrupeds with four arms. Despite this monstrous composition, their torsos are fairly humanoid and their legs are much closer together than a centaur. They are covered in a slightly furry carapace, albeit one that doesn't provide significant durability. They have two large mandibles on their cheeks, and have four eyes. Their legs spread out, giving them a wide stance.

History[edit]

Tsuchigumo are creatures believed to originate from normal spiders that have lived particularly long lives, thus gaining magical powers. This is a common happening in the continent of Kara-Tur, home to creatures like the hengeyokai. Tsuchigumo have been hunted often in history by warriors to prove their just natures. However, tsuchigumo are not particularly evil in any way. While they resemble something out of drow experiments, they are in no way connected to Lolth in actuality.

Society[edit]

Tsuchigumo society prides itself as collectors of knowledge. The largest encampments of tsuchigumo in the world are far smaller than even an average city of humans, with very low population density, but absolute multitudes of libraries, with knowledge spanning from every civilization in the world. Many of the more religious tsuchigumo worship not a deity, but a non-sentient force that they call the "Web of Knowledge," and the most zealous of their kind seek to fuse with it altogether. Tsuchigumo live very communal lives, often raising each other's children, but many are known to leave home and integrate with other cultures, so as to raise the sum total of all knowledge tsuchigumo have.
