The generally accepted portrayal of the Forgotten One

The Forgotten One[edit]

Warlock Subclass

The very existence of your patron has been completely forgotten to most other beings. His identity has dissolved into obscurity and faded away into the shadows that he rules over. Even to those aware of his existence are not entirely sure of certain details concerning the Forgotten One. Things like name, exact appearance, and practices are obscure even to the most devote of followers. There is one practice however that confuses most who know of the Forgotten One: Ancient followers of him would supposedly spit curses in his name into a bowl, so that he might curse and torture those that had wronged them. Aside from that, all that is certain about the Forgotten One is his goal. To plunge the world into eternal darkness, and revel in the chaos.

Expanded Spell List[edit]

The Forgotten One lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a Warlock spell. The following spells are added to the Warlock spell list for you.

The Forgotten One Patron Expanded Spells
Spell Level Spells
1st bane, inflict wounds
3rd blindness/deafness, web
5th bestow curse, blink
7th black tentacles, phantasmal killer
9th contagion, hallow

Heart of Darkness[edit]

Starting at 1st level, your powers can condense the darkness in your opponent's heart and turn it into a weapon. Your Eldritch Blast can deal necrotic damage instead of force damage if you choose. Whenever you hit a creature with Eldritch Blast a small dark-purple crystal sprouts around their shoulders and head, which remains for 1 minute. As soon as a creature sprouts a second crystal, it detonates in a burst of energy. When this happens, that creature and all others within 5ft of it takes 1d10 force or necrotic damage.

Crystallized Curses[edit]

At 6th level, you take total control of the shadows during combat and give them physical form. When you hit a creature with your Eldritch Blast and they are in dim light or darkness, the shadows take the form of crystals around their feet, becoming grappled until the end of their next turn.

Moving Shadows[edit]

Starting at 10th level, you can briefly become one with the realm of your patron. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to launch yourself into a solid surface within 10ft that is no smaller than you and is not considered to be in bright light. When you do this, you become a shadow on that surface that is shaped and moves like you. You are invulnerable while a shadow and cannot cast spells. At the start of your next turn, you are fired from the wall in any direction of your choosing as far as you wish, up to your movement speed. You can do this once per short rest.

Living Nightmare[edit]

At 14th level, you invoke the power of the Forgotten One to show your foes the true doom that awaits all beings. As a bonus action, you fly to any hostile creature within 120ft of you without provoking opportunity attack. When you land, you become cloaked in darkness and gain the following benefits until the end of your next turn:

  • You have resistance to all damage.
  • Casting a spell does not expend a Warlock spell slot.
  • All light within 20ft of you becomes darkness.
  • All your Warlock spells deal an extra die of damage.

Once you use this ability, you cannot do so again until you complete a short or long rest.
