Talon of Tiamat (3.5 Draconomicon Conversion) (5e Class)
Talon of Tiamat[edit]
This is a prestige class from the 3.5 book Draconomicon: The Book of Dragons, converted into the 5e ruleset. Most of it will remain the same apart from things that obviously don't make sense, so don't be surprised if something seems a bit weird.

Breath Weapon[edit]
At 1st level, 3rd level, 5th level, 7th level, and 9th level, the talon gains a new breath weapon. Each type of breath weapon can be used once before a long rest is needed to regain the ability to use that specific breath weapon. After using the Breath Weapon feature, the talon rolls a d6 at the beginning of each of its turns. A roll of 5 or 6 results in the ability to use this feature again (however, you still cannot use the same Breath Weapon option until completing a long rest).
Each improvement of this feature grants the talon a new breath weapon option, with different statistics. Using this feature requires an action. The options are presented here:
- Level 1: Cone of cold, 3d6 cold damage.
- Level 3: Line of acid, 8d4 acid damage.
- Level 5: Cone of poison, 10d6 poison damage.
- Level 7: Line of lightning, 12d8 lightning damage.
- Level 9: Cone of fire, 14d8 fire damage.
Any cone is 15ft and any line is 30ft long and 5ft wide. For every size category above medium the talon is when it uses the Breath Weapon, any cone increases by 5ft and any line increases by 10ft in length. For every size category below small the talon is when it uses the Breath Weapon, any cone decreases by 5ft and any line decreases by 10ft in length.
When any Breath Weapon option is used by the talon, any creatures in the area can make Dexterity saving throws. The DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. Any creature who succeeds this saving throw only takes half as much damage.
Voice of the Dragon[edit]
At 2nd level, the talon gains a bonus to Charisma (Deception) and Charisma (Intimidation) checks equal to the value in the Voice column of the Talon of Tiamat Table.
Ability Score Improvement[edit]
When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
Keen Senses[edit]
At 4th level, the talon gains darkvision out to a range of 30ft. If the talon already has darkvision, its range increases by 30ft instead.
At 8th level, the talon's darkvision's range increases by 30ft.
Immunities[edit]
At 6th level, magic cannot put the talon to sleep, and it becomes immune to the paralyzed condition. In addition, the talon gains immunity to one of the following damage types, at its option: acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison. Once a damage type has been selected, it may never be changed.
Frightful Presence[edit]
At 8th level, as a free action, a talon can activate its frightful presence. It does not last multiple turns. Creatures of the talon's choosing within a radius of 30ft per point of its Charisma modifier (minimum 30 ft) of itself must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be frightened of the talon. The frightened creature makes the saving throw again at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. Once a creature has succeeded on the saving throw, it becomes immune to the effect for 24 hours. Dragons and creatures with more hit dice than the talon are immune to this effect.
Dominate Dragon[edit]
Beginning at 10th level, the talon can cast dominate monster at 8th level, targeting a dragon, without using a spell slot. The spellcasting ability for this spell when it is cast in this way is Charisma. Once this Feature is used, the talon must complete a long rest before it can use it again.
Spellcasting[edit]
If you have levels in a class with the Spellcasting feature, you add half of your levels in the talon of Tiamat class to your overall spellcaster level when determining the number of spell slots available to you. This is probably just to allow spellcasters to multicass into the talon of Tiamat class without losing their main ability.
