Talk:Wyvern Rider (5e Class)
From D&D Wiki
This seems to be a good class, i’d Like to see it finished, I’ll try to help with grammar and spelling as much as I can. --CarricStormwind (talk) 16:54, 29 January 2019 (MST)
Ideas for the Class[edit]
Starting Plan[edit]
I'll lay down my plan to complete this class:
1 - Identity Features: This will be gained early on, at 1st and 2nd level:
1st level: Wyvern Bond, Wyvern Companion and some feature without combat application.
2nd level: A feature related to combat with the dragon. Maybe some special abilities to use spending points.
2 - Tier Upgrades: I'll create a chart with the stats of the Wyvern, to be improved as you gain levels in this class. The class features will improve the size and traits of the wyvern, in the following manner:
Medium Size, only bite attacks; 1st level.
Large Size, bite and claws; 5th level
Large Size, bite, claws and stinger; 11th level
The 17th level tier upgrade will be some other thing.
3 - Archetypes: The archetype features will be gained on 3rd, 7th, 10th, 15th and 18th. There will be three archetypes: third caster, melee combatant and ranged combatant.
4 - Combat Relevant Features: At levels 6, 9, 13 and 14. This will probably give more options to reinforce the idea of a bond between rider and wyvern.
5 - Capstone: No idea. Anastacio (talk) 01:17, 10 June 2020 (MDT)
Development[edit]
I've made some changes on the idea of this class. First i defined the role of this class as a mix of defense and mobility. The wyvern rider has a incredible ability to occupy the battlefield and soak up damage (having two hit point pools - the rider and the wyvern one). To do this, i will have to limit the damage this class is able to do as much as i can, while keeping it as a martial class.
Being the core focused on this two roles, the subclass should enhance his ability to do so, while adding some options of play. The first subclass completed is the simple one: the Wyvern Knight. Intended to enhance the capability of tank damage of this class, while adding some damage, though i will have to think on maybe reducing the power a little.
The other two options are: the spellcasting one, adding utility with sorcerer spells; and the "soul" wyvern, who focuses more on the mobility aspect, with the ability to fuse with the wyvern. The idea of a ranged option don't appear right now, but i still intend to create an "Wyvern Archer" or something like that. Anastacio (talk) 00:45, 13 June 2020 (MDT)
More two Subclasses Finished[edit]
I've finally have finished three subclasses. I ditched the idea of an archer wyvern rider for now, because it is a too restrict concept to create upon. The spellcasting option. They are:
- Brotherhood of Sorcery
The idea of this subclass is a wyvern rider who researches the draconic magic, and uses his wyvern to draw this power. This is why he uses int rather than cha to cast, being a student of the arcane. He can also awaken the Fundamemtum gland (from draconomicon), the body part responsible for the dragon breath.
- Brotherhood of Conection
This subclass focus on the link with the wyvern. Basically the idea here is to make some type of dragon tamer who can basically control his dragon with his mind instead of using commands at higher levels. Anastacio (talk) 12:57, 16 June 2020 (MDT)
