Balance[edit]

A couple of things I would like to comment on. First of all, giving a +6 to a single stat greatly unbalances the race for a +0 LA; even if it is at an average power level. Second I would like to mention that you list draconic as a pretty language. However seeing as it is based around dragons speech one could safely assume that it is harsh, or rigid. In some books it is even described as 'spidery' or wicked. Taking these items into account I'm not sure that draconic should be listed as a pretty language. --Vrail 02:37, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

New stat adjustments? Instead of -2 STR, +6 CHA -> -2 STR, +2 CON, +4 CHA (since being healthy and not frail is often considered beautiful as well, and CON is a measure of health)? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.193.221.146 (talkcontribs) 22:09, 27 June 2010 (UTC). Well, another problem is that those stat bonuses do not create an average +0 LA power level. A race with no level adjustment should almost always have stat bonuses that even out to +0. However your stat bonuses for this race even out to +2 (-2 + 2 +2 = 2 (intelligence, wisdom, and charisma are worth half as much as the three other stats are for these purposes)). However you did take a step in the right direction. If you still want to keep these bonuses I could recommend a couple of things. One would be to simply increase the LA to +1. The second idea is to use the variant rule (originally created for AD&D and updated for 3.5e use here on the wiki) for comeliness. This would allow for you to add stat bonuses there, spreading out the bonuses to charisma more. --Vrail 22:54, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Hmm. But if I drop the +2 to CON, they'll have some issues. They'll have an extra feat, which roughly corresponds to the half-elves immunity to sleep and bonus vs enchantment (and maybe even their low-light vision), their 'class skill' and bonus might be equivalent to the bonuses to skill that a half-elf gets, but it's not nearly as useful, even to a Bard. A Bard Viridanai could, effectively, get a +2 Perform for the right instrument, but that's all. Perform would ALREADY be a class skill for them. And for anyone for whom it ISN'T a class skill, being able to play the banjo well is far from useful. All classes have Craft as a class skill, so the race just gets a +2 to ONE of the variants. Finally, there's Profession, which is ALSO a class skill for everyone. Basically, making it a class skill amounts to pretty much nothing at all, it's more like character background, and the +2 is then just for one skill. Perhaps not worth a +2 to CON... but I'd have to put in SOMETHING to compensate, otherwise the race comes close to being LA-1! How about +1 HP/Lv? The HP bonus is equivalent to the CON +2, but they don't get the skill bonus or the Fort bonus. Could even define it as 'they gain HP (Only) as if their CON stat were 2 higher' so that if someone is a wizard with CON 6 and they roll a 1 on their 1d4 it's still 0 (1-2+1=0). Would that work?
