"This page was proposed for deletion on 07:15, 15 June 2016 (MDT) because: References a class feature. It lets me deal 1d20 with a greataxe in two hands. Conceptually similar to Massive Weapon Fighter (5e Feat), if we decide to keep either they should be merged together. (discuss)."

Yes it references a class feature, which is not an incorrect thing to do. The class feature Fighting Style is on 3 different class lists, and is not a tremendous fundamental thing to allow to other combat classes, such as barbarian, cleric or rogue, without needing to justify a multiclass in some way.

I notice this reference has become a very prominent point since the UA feat release, which while a great guide line is still not the be all and end all of feat creation. The feats listed for the weapon master ones void the generally standard rule of many small bonuses, instead granting a lot of modifiers in the value of +/- 1 or 2 to individual rolls, some in very special and limited circumstances, and many really heavily tie into action economy, which is already something of a strain in 5e. Heck, the spear master has a bit of everything, a die size increase, reaction attack (annoying one at that) to double the damage which required a called target bonus action, small modifier to attack, and bonus action reach extension. This is a tremendously draining feat, requiring a lot of micromanagement with the two bonus action uses, a reaction, die changes and +1 mod. Hell, the Master of Disguise does the exact thing and voids his own advice, by putting a rule to something that should be doable by anyone, relating to crafting a disguise, incidentally also quite similar to the Assassin archetype lvl 9 feature Infiltration Expertise. The feats in the UA are nice, but are by no means how feats should be exclusively made. /endrant

How did you get a greataxe to deal 1d20 from this? The feat is worded as such as to allow one handed weapons to be used 2 handed at a die size increase, and to use two handed weapons one handed for a die size decrease. A greataxe is already two handed, you can't double up on that. I'll take another look at the wording, and see if I can tidy it up to make that clearer. Any suggestions on wording improvement?

Not entirely sure how the MWF feat is conceptually similar, is it because they relate to the use of melee weapons? One allows you to wield one handed/two handed weapons in different ways, the other allows smaller characters to use larger weapons without penalty, or normal characters with oversized ones? They both fit very different niches in the combat spectrum, and definitely don't seem worth merging.

Is there anything else needed doing in regards to this feat?--Kahz (talk) 00:29, 16 June 2016 (MDT)

I must apologize, I can't focus on this right now, but it seems I misread the feat. I take a look at it another time. Marasmusine (talk) 06:42, 16 June 2016 (MDT)
I reworded the feat to better explain the die changes. I think we should consider removing the fighting style benefit though. It might be a little much, but I'm not sure. Carcabob (talk) 23:42, 8 November 2016 (MST)

I like the latest version, except for the fighting style benefits. I get the point, and it fits the theme of the feat, but the feat seems to offer a lot already, and Stylized Combatant (5e Feat) is its own feat for offering fighting styles (after consolidating with 3 other feats). I'll remove it until I get any objections. Perhaps this could be merged with the Strong Arm (5e Feat) somehow. Both have their strong suits design-wise. --Carcabob (talk) 23:16, 28 November 2016 (MST)
