Talk:The Sky Wrath Infusion (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Hello, fellow wikian! So I see you created another Infusion archetype. Here are my comments on this one:
- Extended Spell List. I think we have some misunderstanding here. Unlike cleric's Domain Spells and paladin's Oath Spells, warlock's extended spell list is not always prepared. Notice how warlock spell list is so laughably small in size? The extended spell list is added to this list, from which you choose up to 15 spells.
- So what's the problem? Well, for starters, you already have the witch bolt (PHB) and shatter spell in the warlock spell list. Which means, this archetype has two spells less than other archetypes.
- Electric Form. As I have said on the talk page of the Prismatic Infusion archetype before, just giving bonus to the eldritch blast cantrip rather narrows down the choice for glaivelocks. Unlike previous editions, where the Eldritch Blast was a class feature (hoo boy), it's just another cantrip for warlocks, and may not even learned depeding on a choice (however unlikely it is, it's possible nonetheless).
- Gaining resistance to a damage type and increase in movement speed as a 1st-level class feature is, actually, pretty overpowered. You may want to consult other classes and archetypes from official sources to see how damage resistace is reserved for higher-level class features.
- Boon Enhancement. Considering how Pact of the Chain enhancement is very interesting, the other two are... well, meh for me. It's just another "moar damage (sic)" feature, which could be pretty boring for a class feature, especially for warlocks. You may want to come up with other features that can spice up the warlocks infused with the wrath of the sky.
- Overchannel. Evocation!wizards have the exactly same feature. The hitch is: for warlocks, this feature could be too strong. Notice how warlocks have only one level of spell slots, which regenerates per short rest. The damage is weakened compared to wizards, and there is no damage scaling before long rest. Considering warlocks have more hit points than wizards (bigger Hit Dice) this is too overpowered.
- Oh, and since this is a 10th-level feature, and your spell slots are already 5th level by then, the wording could just be 1d10 + 5 if you're not counting arcanum spells. Which is, again, too little for the class feature.
- Quick Charge. Uh, the warlock's 20th-level feature does the exactly same thing, and it takes 1-hour ritual. If it was just one spell slot it would be still too powerful, but all spell slots? I strongly recommend, no, insist you come up with something else than this.
In short: The features are too skewed to "moar damageTee-Em" stuffs, some of the features are overpowered, and frankly speaking, I was expecting a bit more than just dealing heck lotta damage when you are infused with thunderbolts and lightning. I think you can do it, and I will be looking forward for the improvement. --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 14:42, 2 August 2017 (MDT)
Oh, and I made an Infusion archetype myself! You can check it out here: Purgatorial Infusion (5e Archetype). --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 14:42, 2 August 2017 (MDT)
