Talk:Summon Zombies at Level One (3.5e Optimized Character Build)
From D&D Wiki
This is not my creation, my friend was actually the one that came up with it. I'm just posting it. (Just giving credit where it's due) --Sakurasboy 08:35, 11 October 2008 (MDT)
- You forgot a counter. No DM in his right mind would allow Divine Metamagic. <_<;; --72.154.192.116 20:56, 11 October 2008 (MDT)
- And why would that be? It's in an offical WOTC book, and the dread necromancer meets all requirements for it. I fail to see what basis a DM would have for rejecting that feat. Please Explain. Thank you. --Sakurasboy 23:53, 11 October 2008 (MDT)
- It's a bit of overreaction, but the reason why Divine Metamagic has a bad rap is Persisted tricks. Specifically... Persist Spell, very good, very expensive. Divine Metamagic, quite useful. DMM-Persist Spell... strong, but not broken. Then you get Nightsticks. Until a recent errata that not everyone knows about, people used Nightsticks en masse to make an endless battery of turn attempts.. to persist every spell in the book forever.
- And that is the story about how divine metamagic breaks stuff. A smart DM will just be sure not to let DMM and nightsticks touch. (Or rather, don't let them stack bare minimum.) -- Eiji 01:05, 12 October 2008 (MDT)
- Well I suppose I can see that, but this is for optimization, not for game balance, I mean, I don't think anyone is going to be playing Pun-Pun or a War Hulking Hurler anytime soon. My friend is letting us use it in his campaign and it doesn't seem too overpowered. Zombies are pretty weak compared to what else you face at lower levels, and you can only do it once a day.
Divine Metamagic[edit]
Only works with Divine spells, DN casts arcane spells. Ghostwheel 00:53, 8 July 2009 (MDT)

Summon Undead I is a 1st-level spell. Libris Mortis, page 71:
SUMMON UNDEAD I
Conjuration (Summoning) [Evil]
Level: Blackguard 1, cleric 1, dread necromancer 1, sorcerer/wizard 1
Components: V, S, F/DF
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: One summoned creature
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
This spell functions like summon monster I, except that you summon an undead creature. Summon undead I conjures one of the creatures from the 1st-level list on the Summon Undead table. You choose which creature to summon, and you can change that choice each time you cast the spell. Summoned undead do not count toward the total Hit Dice of undead that you can control with animate dead or the other command undead abilities.
Focus: A tiny bag, a small (not lit) candle, and a carved bone from any humanoid.

sure, but you have to cast that every encounter and you only get a kobold zombie. This page gets you a human or better zombie at level 1 as a permanent companion, plus you can keep doing it every day to build a small army. Hardly pointless 71.61.78.250 08:50, 29 September 2012 (MDT)
