Speculation[edit]

bonus action to do 3d12 for 8th level...gonna have to rely on others' opinions.   ~BigShotFancyMan   talk   10:18, 25 September 2019 (MDT)

That's ~19.5 "unblockable" damage across a very narrow area. I think if you compare this to a paladin's Divine Smite feature, it isn't overpowered in terms of mechanical balance. Even with that snazzy action economy I imagine most sorcerers probably wouldn't take this spell over other high-level options.
To me the most concerning thing is the phrase "anywhere within sight." Spells and magic items can let you 'see' even into other planes, so does that count as within sight? I'd personally prefer something quantifiable, like "1 mile."
Another concerning aspect is that, well, I think the spell should specify the column must be vertical if that is the intent. To me that seems to be the intent, but there isn't anything specifically saying the column can't be horizontal (and thus drastically more powerful in combat). - Guy 15:30, 25 September 2019 (MDT)
I assume the lack of saving throw is an oversight, but if not, your comments make me think this isn't bad. I agree "anywhere" in sight is too vague and something needs addressed for that.   ~BigShotFancyMan   talk   09:42, 26 September 2019 (MDT)
Shockingly, the lack of saving throws is not an oversight. I did not see it necessary for an 8th level spell. I will change the sight problem. Flamestarter (talk) 08:42, 27 September 2019 (MDT)Flamestarter
