Talk:Squire (3.5e Alternate Class Feature)
From D&D Wiki
"# He/She must have Paladin class level at least equal to your Paladin class level. "
- That would make it equally strong as you, perhaps stronger. A cohort has to be 2 levels lower_128.42.152.121 16:46, 5 August 2008 (MDT)
- No no, you can multiclass your squire out of paladin level, by example she must have as much as Paladin level as you. Rik is a 5th level Paladin and 2th level figther. His Squire must be a 5th level Paladin. But he is a 5th level Paladin and 3rd level Fighter, his Squire must be a 5th level Paladin and the other class is free to choose. So the same guy but who is 5th level Paladin and 15 th Level Fighter may make his squire a Lvl 5 lvl 15 anything else. This rule need to be better worded.--Lord Dhazriel 16:55, 5 August 2008 (MDT)
- This means that you cannot get a squire unless you multiclass at least two levels of classes other than Paladin. I don't think that's reasonable. You should be more of a Paladin than your follower, because the assumption is that the Squire looks up to your righteousness, right? --Foxwarrior 17:46, 31 October 2008 (MDT)
"Your Squire will not leave as a cohort until he or she dies."
- As written, this would mean that a paladin who has fallen from grace does not lose his squire. This would seem unrealistic. Furthermore, if your squire takes levels of paladin, would they be able to take this same class feature, thus creating something of a chain of squires? Are their racial requirements to your squire? If the squire dies could you obtain a new one? Can you forcefully dismiss the service of your squire?
- "if your squire takes levels of paladin, would they be able to take this same class feature, thus creating something of a chain of squires?" Yes. This is called Feudalism. --JRCameron 01:44, 19 November 2011 (MST)
Squire[edit]
I would reconsider the for life. It seems to me your squire would be a fighter who is learning what it means to be a paladin. At 1st level paladin they no longer would have to stay. At 6th level when they can acquire their own squire they must go. Another change would be as squires come and go their mentor can raise a call for aid summoning as many of his former pupils as his leadership score allows for followers.Once the purpose of the summons is accomplished they disperse to their own duties. Another option would be an either or scenario where they can have the squire or their mount, but not both.
