Talk:Sniper (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Hello, fellow wikian! I stumbled upon your work, and found some words for suggestions:
- Close Quarter Fighting. There is a fighting style named Close Quarters Shooter from the Unearthed Arcana article. Crossbows in 5th editions have no minimum range whatsoever in the first place, so this feature practically does no good. I suggest learning an additional fighting style would do - the selection must be restricted to Close Quarters Shooter style, however.
- Enhanced Draw-weight. See +n weapons in the SRD - the maximum bonus you get from magic weapon is now +3. I know a sniper got to have a good aim, but you might want to consider the Steady Aim feature from the fighter archetype, added in another Unearthed Arcana article.
- Quickdraw. "Gaining extra attack" means, you can make a third attack when you take the Attack action on your turn? I suggest making a ranged weapon attack as a bonus action would do, perhaps.
- Keen Eyes. Do I use this feature as an action, a bonus action, or (unlikely) a reaction? I must be able to see the marked creature all the time, or I can track its direction whatsoever?
- Kill Shot. I suggest tripling damage when hitting a creature with a ranged attack when the target can't see you, that would be more appropriate for sniper's gimmick. See rogue's Assassin archetype for reference.
In short: Nice archetype, I do think that rangers could do with more combat boost, but some features could be improved. I think this archetype would make a good sniper, I'm counting on you! --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 04:40, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
