List o' Issues[edit]

  1. AC should be 21, not 20; +8 armor (fullplate), +1 Dex, and +2 shield (heavy shield).
  2. His ability to detect evil is a spell-like ability, not a spell.
  3. With a Wis 8, he can't cast spells, so he shouldn't have any spells prepared.
  4. The lance damage is 1d8+2, not 1d8+3, because he's using it one-handed.
  5. Only attacks with the lance have the attack bonus +9/+4 due to Weapon Focus (lance). Attacks with the longsword are +8/+3 instead.
  6. Missing the stats for the special mount and cohort of up to 4th-level (unless it's Artemesia).

Nice Spotting[edit]

Thanks! Looks like PCGen has "issues". --Dmilewski 16:57, 23 August 2006 (MDT)

Ah, that's what you used. Just based on this character alone it looks like there's a lot of "features" (they mustn't be called "bugs") yet left to work out. I noticed that his creature type—Humanoid (Human)—is missing. Also, aura of courage, aura of good, divine grace, and divine health are special qualities, not special attacks. —Sledged 11:40, 24 August 2006 (MDT)

New Format[edit]

I took the liberty of statting out the special mount. —Sledged 12:01, 25 August 2006 (MDT)

More Fluff / Variant[edit]

I have added Sir Silvershield in my city setting as a comic relief character, and he seems to work fine for this.

The sewers of this city are much less complex and important, so Silvershield is probably the only one who is not aware of the fact that his position is generally considered to be a dead end, and there was no need of any guild influence to get him "promoted" to it. Still he formally has a position in the city watch's chain of command. Though everyone is trying to avoid it, it may happen that he suddenly finds himself temporarily in a position that has much more military authority. Since everyone wants to keep up the facade, this can lead to chaotic, funny, or even heroic situations.

In my variant, though being the epitome of bad leadership and organisational incompetence, he has considerable personal valor and is a competent fighter in a situation where he cannot avoid fighting. If he can be convinced of involvement of evil outsiders (this happens only if he can see them with his own eyes, and use his detect evil on them, without having to go to any weird places), he may even forget his aversion to engage into violence. Probably this is a remnant of his paladin class...

He takes office hours very serious (at least his office hours), so the PCs will not be able to contact him before nine in the morning or after five in the afternoon.

I'm still trying to find/create a situation where he can act as deus ex machina and inadvertendly saves the PCs from a dangerous situation. I'm thinking of stumbling into a carefully laid ambush while he's on his way to a fancy dress party (and of course he always wears his full plate armour and longsword, even below fancy dress). Or misunderstanding the ambush as a "modern street performance", in which he thinks that he should take an active part. If you have other ideas, feel free to add them! :-)
