Talk:Sharanai (4e Paragon Path)
From D&D Wiki
As a DM I can tell you that Duality: Order will be very time consuming. Each time it comes up (and I'd use it often, given the freedom it allows) everyone will have to wait while the player flips through all the books (PHB 1-3, Arcane Power, Divine Power, Heroes of Shadow, Martial Power 1&2...etc about 14 books) to decide what she wants to use this encounter. It might be better to do something similar to what Duality: Chaos has and preset certain abilities but leave off the roll. Maybe after a long rest (8 hrs) they can change the set to a different preset for that day to give them a chance at everything in every book that they might want to try.
As I was typing this up, an idea came to me, but I think it might be a lot more work: Sharanai Order, and Sharanai Chaos. Both have full access to everything you have typed up (including the preset for D:O) Except, those of Order get a wider range to choose from while their Chaos side stays at 1d6. Those of Chaos will have 10 to choose from instead of 6, rolling on a 1d10.
I think I'll incorporate that into Swamp of the Dead... thanks, this helped me work out an issue I was having.

- Duality: Order is indeed problematic, as is Duality: Chaos. I believe the solution is to have the player write out their choices before time so they can refer to them when combat starts, as doing so when combat begins, every time it begins, could become exceptionally time consuming indeed. Some Class Features will be significantly better for some classes versus others, but most, if not all, could build some sort of synergy. I might convert it to an Extended Rest and not each Encounter, but the initial hope was to give them a lot of flexibility and utility.
- Personally, I'd place the responsibility on the player to manage these Paragon Path features, and not the DM or the party; if it were me playing this path, I would absolutely write up all of the synergies I would want so I could recall them on demand.

Done[edit]
The Sharanai look good. The problem I see in Duality: Order is, look at the group we have now. They're all more experienced than we are (other than our tank) and yet even they refer to the books and flip through their class. So, how's it going to go when they can flip through every class in every book, so I was more thinking of future DM's who don't realize what that will be like. Now, I agree, it should be more on the player than the DM to organize and prepare... so, I suppose, thinking back, it's fine left as it is, since it will only be we who know it, the world, and this little problem, who will be using the 'Anai' in any setting. The problem has been identified, and worked out, so it's fine.--Ravenwng (talk) 20:45, 23 May 2013 (MDT)
I adjusted Duality Order, I'm not sure if it reads right. But it seems offering four keeps it from being abused (keep choosing order for every fight because I have enough to last the entire day...) and forces them to either bounce between O&C or forced into C once all their Order class features are gone. --Ravenwng (talk) 20:45, 23 May 2013 (MDT)
- Perfectly reasonable; I'll read over the adjustments now and correct any errors they may include.
