Talk:Shadowrender (5e Equipment)

Here are my suggested changes:

Destructive Force. +3 bonus to attack and damage, +2d6 force damage, crit on 19 or 20.

Blade of Power. Instead of referencing these other items and expecting someone to look them up, choose the properties from those items you like and rewrite them here. If it seems like there's too much stuff, it's because there is. I would keep, at most, only the defender's properties, the vorpal sword's ability to ignore slashing resistance, and perhaps the luck ability from the luck blade, not the wishes. You should ask yourself why this weapon has these properties, however, and whether the sword really needs them.

Soul Devourer. Cut the temporary hit points gained in half and reduce the duration of the advantage-granting effect to until the end of your next turn.

Shadow Step Is this an action or a bonus action? Does the target location also have to be in darkness? I would make it a bonus action to teleport 120 feet to a spot that is also in dim light or darkness, and incorporate it into the Soul Energy property for one charge.

Soul Energy I would reduce the number of spells here. I also have to ask, why does this grant the ability to raise the dead? Being fueled by souls is one thing, but the description did not give me the impression of a necromancer's blade. I would scrap those spells and focus on the damaging ones, as per the description. Additionally, darkness should be on this list, perhaps for 1 charge. I would also remove the ability to spend a charge to make an extra attack, or the ability to deal and extra 2d10 damage, as the former eclipses the latter with this weapon.

Frenzy I would scrap this entirely, but if it must stay, I would make the benefit just advantage on attacks.

Supercharged No more than 10' speed buff, reduce necrotic damage to 2d6, scrap the burst ability or nerf it and make it reusable. Replace the curse with "When you hit a creature with Shadowrazor, that creature cannot regain Hit Points until the beginning of your next turn."

Destruction Far too difficult to destroy, I can't imagine how one could destroy an entire plane of existence or if it's even possible. If anything, an item this powerful should be easier to destroy. My suggestion: The Shadowrender is destroyed if the Raven Queen is ever slain or if the sword is placed in water or exposed to sunlight anywhere within the Feywild.

Even with all these nerfs, this will remain a very powerful weapon befitting its description. Ironically, I do feel like it's missing something: +60 feet of darkvision.

Why did you undo my revisions that made this item more balanced then mark this page As unbalanced. Along side posting suggestions for how it can be made more balanced? Why didn't you just add these alterations yourself?

I felt it would be more appropriate to give the original creator a chance to review and fix it themselves since they're still active on the wiki, even if they haven't touched it in a while. Malachai (talk) 18:09, 21 December 2020 (MST)
