Talk:Scorpikis (5e Race)

From D&D Wiki

Hello there!

In regards to bringing this race to a more balanced state, there were a couple of things I was thinking of editing to start off:

- Predatory Senses could be changed to give prof to either Perception OR Stealth, instead of both. - Claw could be edited so that the escape DC uses CON instead of STR, just like the Sting DC uses CON. - Natural Armor could be clarified that the formula applies to both unarmored AND light armor.

If any of you guys think more drastic changes would be needed, then by all means let me know.

I'm going to rate each feature as minor or major (the official races four or five minor benefits; or one major benefit and a few minor)
  • Ability scores: minor - +2 to one and +1 to a choice of one is as good as, but more versatile, than other races.
  • Blindsight: major - superior to darkvision; the constant creature detection is also powerful.
  • Predatory senses: two minor
  • Scorpikis Physiology has several benefits, lets break them down:
    • poison immunity and poisoned condition immunity - major
    • advantage vs. prone - minor
    • large when grappled - mitigated with inability to wear footwear
  • Natural armor - a very minor effect, so won't count
  • Claw - major - a 1d8 attack you get in addition to your normal attack that automatically grapples the target
  • Poison sting - major - a 1d10 attack you get in addition to your normal attack, and causes further damage.
  • Non-combat use for extra limbs - minor
I make that 4 major traits and 5 minor traits. This should give you some idea of what needs removing or toning down. Marasmusine (talk) 17:15, 14 December 2015 (MST)

Just finished making some changes to the race traits. Hopefully it's a step in the right direction. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.249.83.208 (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts.

I've edited the claw and stinger to be reasonably sane. Marasmusine (talk) 16:17, 15 December 2015 (MST)

Hmm yeah. Claw and stinger do look more reasonable now. Thanks for that. :)
Do you think removing Darkvision would put this race into a balanced state? Or is there something else I could change to accomplish that?
Maybe give them low-light vision instead. The out-of-combat-claws section needs rewriting, I think I can do something a bit more succinct, I'll give it a try at some point soon. Marasmusine (talk) 11:40, 16 December 2015 (MST)
I've replaced Darkvision as you suggested. What did you have in mind for the out-of-combat claws section?
