Talk:Satyr, Variant (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Added a physical description as this page was lacking some. The Greek mythology is nice in the History section, however, I think you mixed up satyr and faun. Satyrs were followers of Dionysus and as such were much more rowdy than their more docile brothers, the fauns, who were followers of Pan. Really though, as it goes, they've been so jumbled up by roman times it makes very little difference. I'll continue to edit this page as it seems to be still slightly lacking in description. If you'd prefer I didn't please send me a message and I'll revert it back to its original form. Thanks! --Balthazar (talk) 21:02, 19 April 2015 (MDT)
Why not split it up a little bit, and make fawns a subrace? --Kydo (talk) 04:09, 17 February 2016 (MST)
- As it is currently, this race is still pretty overpowered. I will be giving a general idea of how powerful the race is with the score goal being a 4 to 4.5 to be balanced,
Rating: speed (1), goat charge(1), fey ancestry (0.5), pipes (2), charmed speech (1), Drunken Foolery (0.5-1); Total = 6-6.5
- A few notes about the traits: the speed could be reduced to 35 to reduce the its score by 0.5 or reduced to 30 to reduce the its score by 1; goat charge is a situational attack with higher than normal damage which is 1d4, so it score stays at 1; fey ancestry worth 1; pipes worth 2; charmed speech worth 1; Drunken Foolery provides a bunch of situational benefits and is probably worth 1 but might be worth 0.5. To balance this race, I suggest removing goat charge and changing move speed to 30 because the rest of the traits seem integral to being a Satyr.--Blobby383b (talk) 11:19, 1 July 2017 (MDT)
(*note - I give huge kudos to whoever wrote the original 5e compatible race, however this bit about female Satyrs makes absolutely no sense. If they are rare in the Satyr species, that doesn't mean they are forced to mate with other species for procreation because alternatively as part of the species, male Satyrs would be fairly common. Put this in human terms. If females were only 10% of the human population, then that also means they would have their choice of human mates and be highly sought after by the males of the species. On the contrary, especially since they are hedonistic, male Satyrs would be forced to be pansexual or mate with other species because the choices are fewer which actually plays well into the mythos of male Satyrs.) -Anon
Note: I could've sworn that this was a default race, in one of the main series handbooks, no less. Hmmmm... Does anyone know what class would be the closest to (Demonic Ritual Summoning)? I'm trying to go for more of a "Pilgor" Satyr, as in "Pilgor" got changed into a Satyr. D&DAmateur
- A fey touched warlock could be good if you can find a good homebrew of it. Otherwise, you can go with the circle of the shepherd subclass for druid which is all about calling upon spirits to aid you in battle. Finally, you could just choose whatever class you want and just change around the flavor of some abilities and have everything just be backstory. Whatever you do end up choosing though, have fun with it.--Blobby383b (talk) 10:04, 8 November 2019 (MST)
Moving to a variant page[edit]
Since there is an official satyr race out in Theros, I think it's appropriate to move this to a variant page.--Yanied (talk) 19:49, 9 August 2021 (MDT)
