Talk:Rock Fists (5e Equipment)

Actually, you could argue that heavy armors having a strength req would mean 5e is cognizant of a str req to use heavier items. I don't think it's a ridiculous jump to have a strength requisite for a super heavy weapon if armors have similar. Also, I'm confused by a whole bunch of the flavor has to be deleted.--Yanied (talk) 10:42, 5 July 2024 (MDT)
- While 5e does have str reqs, those reqs are for using an item effectively, my point was more-so that we don't have such for just lifting an item. As for the flavor text, much of it was removed for either restating prior flavor text (sentences 4 and 5 both serve to say "it fires exploding rock fists" which the first sentence does well enough) or being at odds with how the mechanics were changed to fit how 5e typically does magic items (sentence 2 and 3 focus on the use of gnomish propulsion powder (which lacked a link, cost, or rarity), but magic items typically use charges to function rather than an outside item).--Ref3rence (talk) 11:35, 5 July 2024 (MDT)
- You could argue this thing being made of solid stone is heavy to use effectively, though. Imagine holding AND aiming this thing. While it is a cannon, I sort of also imagined it being carried as a sort of "gun" by someone of insane strength, like the weapon used in FFBE, which is where the str req primarily comes in. It could be split actually into two formats, one where it is used as a normal standing cannon and the other for people who can actually carry it (hence my concept art).--Yanied (talk) 19:41, 6 July 2024 (MDT)
- It's absolutely true that such a thing should be difficult to use effectively, I just don't think having a str req to just lift it is the right way to do it. 5e already handles being able to lift an item with carrying capacity, which at least allows a creature to drag the weapon (and makes attacks with it have disadvantage if using v.encumbrance) assuming this weighs about the same as a ballista (~450 lbs. from a cursory search, I could see it weighing a little less since it's magical). I'm not against a high str creature being able to shoulder-fire siege equipment, but I don't think it should be unique to one item. I think the best case scenario would be to add weight to the siege equipment template, thus allowing the intent to come through in a more freeform way.--Ref3rence (talk) 12:03, 8 July 2024 (MDT)
