Talk:Namekian (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Great job rebalancing! Why not try and balance the Super Namekian boon and Namekian Fusion feat?
Regarding the rewrite[edit]
It seemed like the race wasn't really being improved too much since it was flagged, and the original IP seemed to have disinterest in making further edits. I had a few ideas about how to address and balance it according to what others had pointed out, so I took the liberty of doing so. Most of the changes should be self-explanatory, and I made them with good intentions. Here's a few justifications for some of the changes that may seem less obvious:
- Age: Dende was the only non-demon Namekian shown maturing in canon, and he matured at a rate compatable to humans.
- Dragon Clan subrace: While in canon Namekians from canon can make Dragon Balls, being able to cast wish in any form is simply too powerful for a racial trait in 5e. Sometimes a compromise like this needs to be made.
- In canon, Warrior types fight with ki blasts and unarmed strikes. Why would they be proficient in battleaxes? Furthermore, all player-characters in 5e are proficient in unarmed strikes anyway.
- Heightened Senses was removed as it is not inherent to the race design, and the race had excessive power and traits otherwise. Consequently, I removed it.
- Clothes Beam is either extremely situational—or exploitable, as you could in D&D sell an effectively limitless amount of clothing with no drawback. Consequently, I removed it.
I fear the race might still be overpowered, almost entirely because of Ki Flight. I thought the OP might have specifically wanted a race capable of flight, though, so I left in the ability to fly—albeit one that is hopefully more balanced and not specific to one subrace. - Guy (talk) 21:49, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
