+5 Fist[edit]
That +5 fist can be dispelled, though, and it probably will be at some point. --128.42.152.121 14:23, 5 August 2008 (MDT)
- Don't dispelled permaant things come back after an hour or two? Besides, nothing's perfect. And dispelling does take an action.--Sir Milo Teabag 17:29, 17 August 2008 (MDT)
- I can see how it would be possible to create weapons for a monk that utilize their increased hand damage...with a DM would allow it, of course. Step one: Start with a Masterwork set of Leather Gloves (only because Masterwork quality is required for magic item creation). Enhance them to become +1 weapons. Here's where it gets tricky: Your DM could allow for the gloves bonuses to stack onto your hand damage. If so, continue the gloves creation process by adding weapon enchantments to them. The problem is, gloves don't have a damage dealing quality of their own (unlike gauntlets), and a DM could easily rule that attacking with them does one point of damage only, rather than a monk's unarmed strike damage +1. These are also the DM's that will probably make a monk striking with gauntlets do only the 1d3 that they state in the book. Such is the life of a monk, I guess. Even if your DM would allow the above to be used, the benefit of such weaponry would be limited: 1)It would apply to only the monk's hands, and not all of his unarmed strikes. 2) The monk would be effectively burning up two magic item slots for one item (both as gloves and as weapons. 3)A first level monk with a +1 set of flaming gloves wouldn't be doing nearly comparable damage to a first level fighter with a +1 flaming longsword. (This particular disadvantage becomes more mitigated with higher levels.)Of course, there is always the 3.5 text in the monk class description, indicating that a Monk's unarmed strikes count as both a natural and a manufactured weapon. Imagine the DM's perspective when your monk walks into the local magic weapons shop...and when the shopkeeper asks the monk to place the weapon to be augmented on the counter...and he slapps his hands down. - Why not just use a +5 Amulet of Mighty Fists? Ghostwheel 06:22, 7 July 2009 (MDT)
