Talk:Monk's Bow (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Even disregarding all the other features, this weapon deals 1d12 + 1d4 (at 1st level) to 3d12 + 1d8 + 3 (at 12th level) to 5d12 + 1d10 +6 damage?! With all the other features too, this is crazy powerful. Was it supposed to be an artifact? Marasmusine
- There's also the other small issue that monks are not proficient with longbows.
- The attack bonus is +0 to +6. This is in a game where the maximum magic item bonus to attack rolls is +3. Marasmusine (talk) 09:59, 3 July 2017 (MDT)
- I can see what you mean, and this is more of something I made on a whim and am trying to fix, but it's taking more time than I thought it would Red1
Alright, so I've been making changes, but to the person that said monks aren't normally proficient with longbows, your right, but there are several ways they can be, there's even a subclass, the way of the kensei, gives them benefits to picking the longbow as a weapon. This isn't something any monk can pick up and be like "Oh I have this thing now and be super powerful", this bow is a specific thing someone builds themselves around, it's as powerful as it is for that reason. Red1
Whoever says that Monks can't use longbows is incorrect. Certain disciplines allow the use. For example, the Way of the Kensei, from Xanathars Guide to Everything, specifically says that Monks can choose a longbow as a Kensei weapon and they have proficiency with all Kensei weapons. Furthermore, an Elf Monk would have proficiency with a longbow. Anonymous
- While I believe I have fixed previous issues, I can't remember where I got the image, I think I just searched up "Monk with a bow" and found it, so I'm a bit stumped. If I can't find the source, I'll just delete the imagine from the page. Red1
- If you go to Google images, and drag the image into the search field then you will get matching results for the image. Go through the links and supply a source on this page as well as recognition for the artist. --Green Dragon (talk) 22:48, 21 January 2019 (MST)
Thanks Dragon, I tried that, but I couldn't find the actual souse of the image, even tried using a few programs, but no dice. From what I can tell it was used as a image for I believe a 3.5 monk prestige class called Zen Archer. It's fine, I've given an accurate description of how the bow looks, I believe I've got everything fixed, so I'll be removing the problem notes in about two days, if anyone has any problems with that, or think there's more issues, well, post um' I guess. Red1
Never in my life have I ever been so ashamed of something I created, it has been distorted beyond all recognition. I would like to request it's deletion, this isn't what I made anymore. Red1
Artifact?[edit]
Hello so I've been editing this weapon quite a bit and didn't know the extent of how powerful a legendary item could be. Would it be more benificial to turn it into an Artifact and give it more of a backstory?
