Thoughts[edit]

While I like this feat, I think it goes against some things for 5e design.

  • Feats as features and vice versa
  • Improving class features

The other thing is, expertise isn't a term to be understood. Expertise needs to be written out when used, and the feat also would need to give proficiency in the skill-well, that is typically the norm for how that works. Lastly, the naming conventions deem that a feat title should be an active descriptor - Skulker, Spell Sniper, Brawler, etc. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 14:09, 30 July 2018 (MDT)

"Minor" Rogue? This feat gives you the best features it takes a literal rogue several levels to get. That alone seems pretty overpow—wait. Dodge? As a bonus action?
No, scratch "pretty overpowered," the current version is incredibly overpowered. Dodge Action every turn as a bonus action is essentially game-breaking. Rogues wish they could do that. - Guy 20:13, 26 August 2018 (MDT)

I think it would be acceptable to have a feat which gives roughly two-thirds of the class features a class gets at 1st level, the way Magic Initiate (5e Feat) does, but not all of them—and especially not including 2nd level features.
On that note, I believe at least one version of this page provided only 1d6 Sneak Attack (and only 1d6) plus one Expertise (as opposed to two), and no Cunning Action. That still strikes me as very powerful and munchkiny, but I think is at least reasonable. It competes with +2 Dex in my opinion, which is what a feat should do.
This is a bit of a tangent, but feats in Xanathar's Guide to Everything do use the term "expertise," but explain it immediately afterward. E.g., "Choose one skill in which you have proficiency. You gain expertise with that skill, which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. The skill you choose must be one that isn’t already benefiting from a feature, such as Expertise, that doubles your proficiency bonus." That wording seems pretty good to me. - Guy 04:41, 27 August 2018 (MDT)
Yup. I can see BSFM's version was the best one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That effect does seem to uphold the original contributor's intent, too. - Guy 04:48, 27 August 2018 (MDT)
Twas Blobby383b who I thought worded it best and I reverted to their edit. (I didn’t think I did so well >.<) Other great points were made though, things I’m nnot sure I’d otherwise considered (Bonus Action; Dodge) so thanks! BigShotFancyMan (talk) 06:14, 27 August 2018 (MDT)
