Talk:Magma Mace (5e Equipment)

The Magma Mace is technically magical, but since it's only magical feature is dealing Fire damage instead of Bludgeoning and it isn't too powerful to be a normally purchasable weapon, I put it on the Mundane item page, because it's normally purchasable.

I didn't mark this page as as a stub myself, but even if it is a minor effect, the magma mace is a magic weapon. At the very least it should be classified as a common magic weapon. The only other readily purchasable magic item in SRD, a potion of healing, is also the only common magic item in the SRD. - Guy (talk) 04:02, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
For me, the main issue is that this is very heavily campaign dependent. 5e Weapons is for items that might be expected in any D&D campaign. A DM should feel safe that a player can look through this list and buy them in a normal city.
By putting it in magic weapons instead, you put it in the purview of the DM, who can decide if and when they appear. I will make the necessary change. Marasmusine (talk) 07:39, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Fire resistance is more common than bludgeoning resistance, so the magma mace is a worse choice than a regular mace. So should it do something else? Let it set fire to combustible materials, or have it glow with a dim light? Marasmusine (talk) 07:44, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, I don't know how to change something's type once it's done.
