Talk:Magma Golem (3.5e Creature)

The costs for crafting a Magma golem are much too high for any character. First off, 300,000XP drains some serious levels out of a 30th level caster. Secondly, 1,200,000gp for magma and "rediculously expensive liquids" to keep it from turning to plain rock? That's rather absurd; compare these prices to the Iron Colossus. The Iron Colossus costs 200,000gp less, and a whopping 250,000XP points fewer to create. Arguably, the Magma Golem has a CR that is 2 points higher than an Iron Colossus, but this does not justify the gulf of cost between the Iron Colossus and the Magma Golem. The difference between the Iron and Flesh colossi is 240,000gp and a mere 19,400XP with a difference in CR of 6. With the costs the way they are, it would be cheaper to create an epic spell that creates magma golems --that way, a 30th level caster could come up with somewhere near five of the beasties before he was anywhere near to expending 300,000XP. --Rakankou 17:08, 2 December 2007 (MST)

I would have to agree. 300,000XP would render the spellcaster incapable of controlling or even fending off the golem. For a quick note, losing that much experience would drop a level 30 character to level 15 instantly.--Oddplume 03:58, 30 July 2009 (MDT)

I say magma is for Elementals and not Golems. --Redrum 18:37, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
