Talk:Loaded Gun (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
No, this is a piece of equipment, not a magic item, I’ll be deleting the stub in a while unless a proper argument is posed. Magic items have rarity, this simply appears and/or can be bought via the listed price. --Kanon (talk) 08:27, 30 June 2020 (MDT)
- Honestly, I don't even 100% understand what this item is supposed to be, but the fact that it has a charge, which only magic items have, the fact that it appears magically from the sky, and the fact that it can instantly kill a creature, all point towards this being a magic item. If there was some description that explained how this item worked, it could be justified to be a mundane item. --PJammaz (talk) 09:18, 30 June 2020 (MDT)
- Really it is supposed to be up to the imagination of the Dungeon Master, but when making it, a has something like a Desert Eagle in mind, with one shot loaded, but it’s supposed to be open so that it can be tailored to desires of the campaign. The reason it has a charge is simply so that it can be explained why it can only be used once in terms that 5e uses in it’s items, because with ammunition, it needs a set range and an ammo type, this does not to show the rarity of the bullet inside and how accurate and far reaching it goes. It magically appears from the sky for the purposes of comical effect and because it’s a literal firearm, not forged by a blacksmith, just appearing out of nowhere. The reason why it can instantly kill or destroy any creature within range is a comical explanation of how deadly it is, I mean, a gun is much more powerful than a club, and here it is supposed to show, like previously stated, in a comical way. The main reason it isn’t labeled as a magic item is because it is not magical, it is a mundane item.--Kanon (talk) 14:57, 30 June 2020 (MDT)
- This an april fool's item, so I suppose it doesn't really matter. The fact that the item appears magically is enough, in my opinion, to state that this is a magic item. If you are really against that, though, I give up. --PJammaz (talk) 15:24, 30 June 2020 (MDT)
- Just adding my own two cents, generally mundane items with unique effects (in this case comedically falling from the sky and instantly killing a creature) are categorized under magic items (Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (up for debate)), so this should be under that category. I believe that other equipment should be reserved for things with mechanical non-equipment stats (Example) or that have limited mechanical use but extended role-play use (Example). --Ref3rence (talk) 19:41, 30 June 2020 (MDT)
