Talk:Lionfolk (5e Race)

As a design principle in 5th edition, flat bonuses should be avoided in general, we instead use things like advantage but granting it, in this case, would be too strong. Leonin Brutality granted a +2 bonus to attack rolls just for having targets adjacent to it which breaks those stated design principles as well as the Bounded Accuracy. On the other hand, Leonin Tactics provides what is essentially an aura effect for all allies around any leonin allowing any member of the party to disengage freely at no cost as long as the leonin was taking up the front. Finally, looking at both of the effects of Leonin Brutality and Leonin Tactics, there is no reason for them to have traits which do the things they do from a flavor or balance perspective. Hence, the subraces traits were swapped out for more thematically and mechanically appropriate options. --ConcealedLightThis user is an administrator (talk) 23:13, 3 June 2018 (MDT)

It's a +2 bonus to damage rolls, not attack rolls. In 5e, that's a huge difference. The PHB alone has plenty of places where damage rolls get flat bonuses, so I don't get where this rule against them is nor why you're so adamant about it.
I do think both Brutality and Tactics are a bit overpowered and lacking in flavor. That said they aren't such extreme violations that we need to start an edit war over them.
I imagine CL only intended to improve the race, but rolled over the spirit and intent of this page more than GD-Psycho would have liked.
Personally, I think it would be fine if not ideal to change the traits back to how they were, while keeping the format improvements CL contributed. - Guy (talk) 06:09, 4 June 2018 (MDT)
That's fine. --ConcealedLightThis user is an administrator (talk) 09:47, 4 June 2018 (MDT)
