Talk:Kage (5e Class)
Rework[edit]
I originally created this class, but I noticed that it had been moved to an incomplete class after it was missing subclasses, so I added those, as well as removed some features that didn't make sense with my intent of this cless' abilities, or were moved to a subclass. If you have any suggestions for this class, I'd love to hear them!
Update: After using a similar homebrew ability, I realized how the Vanish ability of the Path of the Shikaku could be expoited. In order to make it more balanced, I changed how the ability works. Unless somebody else makles an edit, I plan for this to be the final change I make to the class, but I'm still open to suggestions.
Shadow Step[edit]
Wouldn't it make more sense if the amount of times you can use shadow step was Wisdom modifier + proficiency? I think that's the typical amount of times for features similar to this.
That sounds fair. I'll change it.
Balance changes[edit]
I'm starting to realize that this class is pretty unbalanced, and is pretty much better than Rogue in every way. I plan to make some balance changes sometime within the next two weeks. If anyone has any suggestions for how to balance it without disrupting the playstyle of the class, feel free to put them here.
The biggest thing that needs change are the occult ability from the kensai tree in my opinion. 7 separate attacks is pretty crazy. Doesn't help that at max level, you gonna have +18 to attack.
One thing to also consider while balancing this is that this is more focused on assassination, while rogue is more picking locks and thievery. You should also take off the part of Swift Reaction where you get an advantage and extra damage against creatures that haven't taken a turn, or the trait Slay, because those paired are super over powered.
Balancing[edit]
I feel like the traits given at 1st level are too op and there's too many. Maybe take out the Reaper's Dolgiri or something to balance it out?
Balance Issues[edit]
- Two common saves (Dex and Wis)
- There's more ASI than the table shows (missing one at 10th level, according to your ASI feature)
- Many flat bonuses (+2 to stealth, etc.) that are more 4e than they are 5e.
- Major features on same levels there is ASI.
- "Free actions" are not a 5e thing. That is 4e.
- The stacking overall from the flat bonuses is problematic in that it potentially breaks bounded accuracy. I could be wrong, feel free to check.
