Talk:Identifier (5e Feat)
From D&D Wiki
Alternative version of this feat.
Improved Identification
Prerequisite: Ability to cast Identify
- You can cast Identify as a bonus action.
- When you cast Identify on an object, you learn what it is made of and any properties or abilities it possesses that are not immediately obvious.
- When you cast Identify on a creature, you learn any resistances it has to damage types and any conditions it is immune to.
- When you cast Identify on a cursed creature or object, you immediately learn what type of curse it is and what steps can be taken to break it, if any.
- When you cast Identify on a magical aura, you automatically learn what type of magic it is and what its general function is.
This revised version of the feat still allows characters to cast Identify more quickly, but removes the ability to learn a creature's vulnerabilities or the highest-level spell it can cast. Instead, it focuses on identifying the more practical aspects of objects and creatures. The ability to break curses is still present, but is limited to only identifying the curse and providing some guidance on how to break it. Finally, the feat adds the ability to identify magical auras, which can be a useful tool in certain situations.
