Musicus Meter
Score: 6
This race has a score of 6 according to the Musicus Meter race guidelines. With this metric, first-party races' scores range from 4.5 to 8. This is a guideline, not a rule, and it's important to use your own judgment alongside this scoring.
This scoring may be the groundwork for a focused {{needsbalance}} usage. A contributor to this page may request a detailed breakdown of this page's balance. Without this information, {{needsbalance}} may then be removed. This meter cannot be the sole basis for a needsbalance template, but may be included as an accessory to a wider discussion of a race's balance.
This template should only be placed on a race's talk page. If this template is not placed on the talk page, please move it.

While Hypno was a pokemon I had thought about making into a race for a while, questions like "How do I make this race interesting?" and "How do I get Dream Eater to work?", put me off of doing it until now (special thanks to ConcealedWife for the help with Dream Eater). Now that it's here, hopefully everyone will enjoy it.

There's not much to say in terms of references. The mention of Hypno's Lullaby speaks for itself as it's a rather well-known creepypasta based on Hypno's tendency to kidnap children.

Hypnosis was originally going to be grant the psionic talent "Mystic Charm", but upon recommendation that it should learn the spell Sleep, I decided that would be better since, in the games, Hypnosis does just that.

The line about hypnos breaking into a trial captain's room was a reference to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, where three Hypnos break into Captain Ilmia's bedroom, knocking out the Machamp guarding it, and steal a nugget from within. The line about Hypnos working in hospitals is a reference to Hypno's ultra Moon pokedex entry that states that it aids doctors in hospitals by helping patients sleep.

I was originally going to have Hypno know Deep Speech, since it would add to the mystery of the race given the alien language, but since Hypnos aren't aberrations or aliens, I decided on Undercommon instead. --MetalShadowOverlord (talk) 03:00, 20 February 2019 (MST)

Hypnos don't have an innate desire to cause harm, and, as said above, are even helpful sometimes. Shouldn't they be more of a true neutral race? That said, too, animals (and pokemon) aren't good or evil, as mentioned in the basic rules.
Misread your edit. My apologies, restored. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 05:10, 22 April 2021 (MDT)
