Talk:Hydris (5e Race)
This race still has a few issues:
- Ancient Blood starts out reasonable at low levels but becomes too powerful as it scales. At 10th level, a Hydris with a +4 Constitution modifier (which isn't an unreasonable assumption since they get a racial bonus to constitution) can restore a total of 80 HP, which is a lot. For comparison, heal, a 6th level spell, restores 70 HP. A racial trait having comparable power to a 6th level spell is just nuts, and it only gets worse from there. The "in combat" part should probably be removed; 5e doesn't draw a distinction between in combat and out of combat actions.
- "Per long rest."
- I can't make heads or tails of what Lords of Battle is trying to say.
- What happens when a White Scale chooses a non-spellcasting class? Do their racial traits just do nothing?
- Can the white scale's "additional non-cantrip spell" be something like wish?
- Red Scale gets proficiency with all martial weapons. Some, including me, might consider this too good.
- What is the "bleed" that Festival Dance applies?
- Red, Blue, and Yellow scales get a total +4 ASI while white and black get a total of +3 (I'm not counting the reduction to a mental score that the black scale gets since you can choose what gets penalized and you'll just put it in a dump stat). I'm not sure whether this is intentional.
- Racial traits like "A workman's tools" should not grant you additional starting equipment.
- The red/blue hybrid gets proficiency with "marital weapons." See my above comment wrt weapon proficiency.
- The red/yellow hybrid should not get the healing word cantrip because healing word is not a cantrip.
- Again with martial weapon proficiency!
- The "none primary scale" gets too many skill proficiencies and "mastery" is not a thing.
- The whole page has terrible spelling and grammar throughout. It makes my eyes bleed.
Conclusion: This race has a lot of issues. As it is currently, it is a viable candidate for deletion. A concerted effort should be made to overhaul this race to get it to a point where it should not be deleted. — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email) . . 13:57, 30 January 2018 (MST)
at this time I feel I have changed the race to cover all of the issues present here as well as fluff out the details of the race to an acceptable degree. please tell me if there are any more errors present on the page. -Drogan2000 (original author)
- Ancient Blood is a lot better now balance-wise, though I feel it's still worded somewhat awkwardly. Perhaps this feature could be reworked to something similar to the Aasimar's Healing Hands?
- I still don't understand what Lord of Battle is supposed to do.
- What is the "spell modifier" used to calculate the white scale's AC?
- I still don't understand how Festival Dance's "bleed" works.
- The whole page still has spelling and grammar issues throughout.
- Currently, the page is still a viable candidate for deletion, though I will push back the deletion time by two weeks to give you more time to work on this. — Geodude (talk | contribs | email) . . 16:24, 13 August 2019 (MDT)
I've revisited the points of detail that you have told me about and I have edited them and tried to make them more clear, I also made a run through with Grammarly since I forgot to before and, it noticed the grammar problems I couldn't see.
I added fluff and additional content as well as grammar corrections, but I can't see if there are any problems with the Italicize and Capitalize aspects of the page. if there are any grammar mistakes left I hope I would be possible for someone to point it out. user:Drogan2000 . . 20.30, 2 february 2020 (GMT)
