Talk:Giantslayer (5e Subclass)
I've made lot of changes in mechanics of this class, but the actual idea behind it is untouched. I think this subclass is lacking on lore, though, and i will focus on that on the next editions. Anastacio (talk)
Somethings always bugged me with this archetype. It lacks the mobility of a regular ranger and i didn't like to much the idea of a helper to this giant hunter. At least, i didn't find a way to make the feature interesting conceptually.
So, iv'e tweaked a few things. The Giantslayer will remain the same in concept, but will play differently. This version has a core feature linked to a weapon too, but i brought some mechanical concepts from the Artificer: artilerist, that to me resembles a lot what the creator was trying to do in the mechanical sense, with this subclass.
I will remove the "powerful build" too, because my idea for this class now is to be more faithful to the chosen name. Giantslayer is, at least in lore, a class for those who hunt giants. Didn't make sense, at least for me, to creatures that are already strong try to create engines to aid to their work. What makes sense is some type of weaker and smaller creature craft this machines to equalize the battles. Anastacio (talk)
This is probably my last BIG change on this archetype, unless someone point out something that does not make sense, is unbalanced or not fun. I will probably only make only few adjustments, if i see any failure on this. The damage output does not seem to be higher than other rangers, but i will make some calculations in the future, to make sure.
I've added a spell list for the Giantslayer, and, aside from Hold Monster, there's nothing to powerful in combat. And the "Tiny Servant" spell was included both because it is thematically sounding with this ranger/crafter and as a nod to the original concept of this class, who had an "Helper" as a feature.Anastacio (talk) 18:34, 8 May 2020 (MDT)
