i like the idea of a Gargoyle race. i believe there is some info from 3.5 you could use to greatly improve the experience of playing this race.--Vladmere.Labefactum (talk) 06:46, 27 October 2015 (MDT)

I recommend reading a bit more about real-world gargoyles. For example, they often had horrific faces in order to scare away evil spirits. The demon-faced subrace you have here scares non-demons (so it works on an ooze? a swarm of insects?) Marasmusine (talk) 08:31, 27 October 2015 (MDT)
And, as discussed many many times before, flight at 1st level can be a problem. It's not the duration of flight that's the issue, it's the accesibility it grants. There are some ways to balance this. Marasmusine (talk) 08:33, 27 October 2015 (MDT)
Maybe we can give them a hover speed were they decend 5ft a turn and at later levels it eventually turns into a fly speed? It would given them a way to avoid falling damage while they use their wings but does not give them the accessibility of flight. Let me know what you think. --Vladmere.Labefactum (talk) 06:53, 31 October 2015 (MDT)
That's sounds fine. 5th level is about where flight becomes expected. The other solution is to set an altitude limit of 5 feet, and/or to limit to light or no armor. Marasmusine (talk) 08:07, 31 October 2015 (MDT)
alright lets roll with a hover speed and we will make it 6th level 20ft flight and 30ft at 10th.--Vladmere.Labefactum (talk) 13:42, 31 October 2015 (MDT)
isn't a gargoyle technically a construct.

If so shouldn't the gain the following ability: Living Construct. While you were constructed you are still considered to be living. You don't need to eat or breathe, and can fall into a trance for 4 hours per day to gain the benefit of sleeping for 8 hours. In this trance you are perfectly aware of your surroundings. You are also immune to disease. To balance this we could half the rate of natural healing or something similar (because this would be nice to have as a well balanced race).

Gargoyles are not constructs. Marasmusine (talk) 07:05, 23 February 2016 (MST)
hey just wondering why you removed the hover speed of the gargoyle? Plus the level 10 getting a fly speed seems a little late for them to be able to use their wings. In the monster manual they are a CR 2 with a flight speed, so I reckon they should gain access to flight around level 6. It makes sense seeing as most spellcasters have a fly spell at this point. Also it is not as broken as the Aaroka 60ft fly speed so its not op for them to gain it at this point. Plus flying is a risk. Makes you a big target lol. let me know what you think.

Cheers. --Vladmere.Labefactum (talk) 20:03, 18 November 2015 (MST)

Just went through the race again and made some balance changes, did some research on gargoyles and found out they are elemental constructs so they only benefit from their elemental nature so they are no longer immune to disease. Fixed the fly speed, putting it down to level 6 so characters can gain access to it earlier. Adjusted the stats because of the fact they get 1 AC makes them really strong. fixed up the obsidian gargoyle so instead of chill touch they have vampiric touch which makes more sense based on their origins. let me know if people like the changes. thanks --Vladmere.Labefactum (talk) 21:54, 22 February 2016 (MST)

(Edited) Vampiric touch is a 3rd-level spell and does an according amount of damage; pushed it back to 5th level and gave them a modified chill touch to compensate. Gonna switch the casting ability for that to Strength as well, I think. ...And maybe I should go back and make that AC thing a solid +1 instead of forcing them to minmax around the armor thing. :/ 18:17, 24 September 2016 (MDT)
Ended up making the armor class trait completely different. I think it makes it more interesting, and think it's probably a good thing that it doesn't disallow armor, but could also potentially be either underwhelming or overpowered. :/ Is that kind of change worth it, or should I have just stuck with a +1? I guess it being optional should help. Knowlessman (talk) 00:42, 25 September 2016 (MDT)
What type of fighting class would a gargoyle typically use??
