Talk:Fulgur (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
Even with Nuke's nerfs this cantrip seems like it should only be dealing 1d4 damage at best. Compare this to spells like thunderclap which has a tiny range and deals only 1d6 damage; or acid splash, which I believe is still the only official ranged cantrip that can hit more than one target, but has less range, less area, less damage, and a worse to-hit roll than this spell currently has. - Guy 08:36, 21 May 2022 (MDT)
- What about create bonfire? 1d8 fire damage filling a 5-foot cube within 60 feet. It can potentially hit up to 4 creatures if placed smartly, and can deny an area for 1 minute. --ZarHakkar (talk) 21:48, 21 May 2022 (MDT)
- Oh, yeah, I sometimes forget some players interpret bonfire that way.
- Even if you're as generous as possible with that 5-foot cube, though, it covers 4 "spaces" at most. If you apply the same logic to a 5-foot radius it will cover 9 spaces. Based on that alone it seems to me like these two cantrips shouldn't be on equal footing.
- Yeah, d6 seems a fair compromise. There's several other damage cantrips on this wiki which do the same d6 damage in a 5-foot radius (at range) and I'm not about to flag every single one of them. - Guy 10:09, 22 May 2022 (MDT)
