Edit War[edit]

To hopefully start the end to this edit war, I figured I'd outline my issues with the current state of this page so that we can work toward a resolution. Firstly, the section detailing how to make attacks with this item doesn't work within 5e's rules, mainly because there's no such thing as a "ranged explosive attack" within 5e. Explosives in 5e (as established in the DMG's anachronistic weapons section) force a saving throw, not an attack roll. Treating this as a ranged attack roll anyway, no range is given, and 5e doesn't assign any proficiency to explosives, and while I know that this was created with Terrone (5e Class) in mind, creating a whole new proficiency that can only be gotten from one subclass feature and only applies to one weapon is hard to call good game design. The only way that I could see this working as an attack would be in a way similar to what's found with RPG (5e Equipment), but even then such a thing should really be a variant rule.

As for using this as ammunition, if this is just a plain old whizbanger (which it should be, this page is "Firework (5e Equipment)" not "Firework that is designed to be fired from a crossbow (5e Equipment)"), any crossbow would catch the bottom of the firework and cause it to go careening wherever it pleased. Obviously the idea of shooting a firework from a crossbow is fun, that's why I made Bolt, Firework (20) (5e Equipment), but I don't see any reason that it should be rolled into a page for normal fireworks. Also, "If your DM..." types of rules are discouraged on this wiki because of Rule Zero.

As for making this page April Fools, there's no joke to this page, and adding the April Fools template (or just the category for some reason) does not make it exempt from criticism. This page isn't called "Firework only meant for the Terrone class (5e Equipment)" (not that such a page would fly, it'd be better off going on that class page), it's just a page for generic fireworks, which are gunpowder explosives and thus should fit the precedent set in the DMG's gunpowder explosives, which is exactly what the other version of the page that I and SirSprinkles have been implementing does.--Ref3rence (talk) 18:05, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
