Improved Statistics[edit]

Looks like I may have been out of line with the websites rules and procedures on editing a page. I took an in depth look at the falcon listed here compared to a Hawk, which can be found in the Monster Manual. Seems like there may be a more accurate portrayal of a falcon. I, prematurely edited the page with the following:

Suggestion:

There are some changes that may lend a sense of realism to the listing above.

The size of a Falcon should be listed as a Tiny creature. If a hawk, which is a creature found in the monster manual, is listed as a tiny creature, and a hawk is certainly bigger than a falcon, it follows that the falcon should be no larger than a tiny creature until advancement dictates otherwise. Additionally, a tiny creatures dimensions, as dictated in the monster manual, are 1 to 2 feet in height or length. These dimensions more aptly describe a falcon than do those found for "small" creatures.

Furthermore, a falcon hunts as described here using a dive followed by a blunt impact delivered upon the intended target, yet nowhere in this entry is a listing for the subsequent violent contact listed. In addition to having a talon attack and a bite, it is my recommendation that a falcon has a slam attack with the added bonuses of a charge inherently added. This attack would only be used if the creature is in a dive.

Will be posting a competing entry for a falcon once complete.

I have since completed my version of the falcon and wanted to put it forth as an updated version if the page owner consents. It is as follows:

Combat

The falcon like most raptors are an ambush predator. It favors a downward dive at immense speeds and slam into its attacker leaving it stunned/dazed. Most falcons prey on small birds. This tactic has the added benefit of adding falling damage to its target, which tend to tumble from the sky after being struck.

A falcon employs different strategies on terrestrial game, as diving and slamming into the ground is to be avoided. Instead, a falcon swoops down landing atop its prey and employs its improved grab, at which point, it employs its bite against its restrained prey.

Falcons combine both talons into a single attack.

Skills: Falcons have a +8 racial bonus on Spot checks.

Special Abilities

Dive: This attack can only be used if the Falcon is in a controlled dive, which is defined as a greater decreases its elevation relative to the distance it traverses on the horizontal axis. While in a dive the falcon can move 5 times its fly speed in a straight line.

Slam: To use this ability, the Falcon must use its dive ability and successfully hit with his slam attack, and if the target is as small or smaller than the falcon it must make a fortitude check (DC 14) or be dazed for 1 round.

Improved Grab: To use this ability, a falcon must hit with its talon attack. A falcon that wins the ensuing grapple check establishes a hold and can bite.
