Talk:Eruption Counter (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
Alright, I addressed the previous issues and reworked the spell. The idea of it being castable through a greatsword is not only for wizards, sorcerers or warlocks but for the potential class building for those classes or homebrew classes that deal with the same spell lists. For example, a hexblade warlock can gain access to martial weaponry such as the greatsword and if I am remembering correctly, cast spells through it as a focus. Im not trying to bash you for telling me whats wrong, I'm just saying that a base wizard playing a wizard as far back pew-pew mage was not my idea for this spell.
- "F" isn't a spell component in 5th edition. You should look at how something like 5e SRD:Branding Smite is written.
- The spell still refers to "side" and "back": as I said, facing is not used in the core rules.
- "counter their attack" isn't defined. Do you mean you take no damage from the attack, or that the attack roll isn't made at all? Perhaps it could work like other parry-like features in the PHB? Marasmusine (talk) 16:12, 16 May 2019 (MDT)
- I think the hexblade you are referring to is from Unearthed Arcana playtest material. The hexblade does indeed have martial weapon proficiency, but is dissuaded from using two-handed weapons (they would not get the Charisma ability swap). Nor does it say anything using a weapon as a focus.
- Perhaps you could demonstrate what a greatsword-wielding wizard or warlock build would look like. Marasmusine (talk) 16:20, 16 May 2019 (MDT)
Alright, so I reworked the whole "facing issue" with something that would make more sense in core 5e, I was using "facing" as the idea of it being weird if someone stabbed at you from behind and you just 180-ed to counter them; however, most of the time when getting attacked from behind they usually have advantage. This should clear up things a bit. I also realized that F is from 3.5, which is what I used to play and know fluently back in the day, as materials is now M so that is also fixed. I also elaborated on what happens when you counter an attack.
