Paladan not Death knight[edit]

A Death Knights most common form is evil and enslaving other undead so having this be anti evil seems more like a good paladan ththen the death knight --Bloodreaper54 You can include your signature with four tildes(~).

Comments[edit]

I know this page is abandoned for like a year or so, but from what I see, this is one heck of a mess. Let me begin:

  • In General. I doubt if the OP even read PHB and/or DMG thoroughly when he/she came up with this. The wording is not right, the mechanism is not right, it's just wrong in every multiverse level.
  • Death Knight only, given at induction (Bonded to Death Knight). First of all, what is this "Death Knight" class? It would be so nice if it's linked. Second, this does not explain what kind of weapon this is, it just redundantly says "only death knights can use it". Note that most weapons can be wielded by every class - but occasionally only some classes are allowed to "attune" to the weapon, unleashing its magical properties. (After all, why wouldn't a fighter just grab and swing a sword? This is so MMORPG and JRPG kind of mechanism.)
  • This sword does 2d6 slashing, 1d10 versatile. Heck, SRD page explains versatile property most clearly enough. Besides, the only two weapons that deal 2d6 base damage is greatsword and maul, and they're both two-handed weapons. One-handed 2d6 damage is broken enough.
  • This weapon can only be wielded by a Death Knight. As if it wasn't already stressed out enough.
  • When someone with a evil alignment tries to pick up this weapon, they take 3d6 Radiant damage and they are unable to lift it. This is just my opinion, but in 5th edition, most effects that designates a specific alignment is all dropped out, and there must be a reason behind all this. Plus, "evil" does not always mean "light". If an evil, dogmatic and fanatic knight, by any chance, would grab and pick up Ebon Blade, it would make perfect sense in-universe. Bonus if the said evil-aligned creature is immune to radiant damage.
  • Against fiends and undead, this sword does an extra 3d6 radiant damage. Yes, holy avenger had better wordings here.
  • This weapon has 10 charges, as an action you can expend 1 charge to give advantage of +5 on attacks against Undead and Fiends for the following hour, while imposing disadvantage of +5 to AC on attacks made by a fiend or undead creature against the wielder. You get a +n bonus, not advantage. Advantage means you roll two d20s and pick one with the higher result. Seriously, did anyone read PHB even once when he/she came up with this sentence?
  • As a bonus action, you can expend a charge to activate the hilt for an hour and any ally that starts their turn in a 15 foot radius gains 2d6+2 hitpoints at the start of their turn. And it disregards hit point economy, great. Note that hit point regeneration is very scarce in D&D mechanisms, with good reasons. Automatic hit point regeneration for 1 hour, to a maximum of what, 20d6+20 hit points? For all creatures within 15 feet of the wielder, including the wielder himself/herself? Too much.

In short: Total rework is a must, flat down. I think I can do it. --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 18:33, 29 June 2017 (MDT)
