Talk:Drakiin (5e Race)

So I'm interested in this race but also noticing what's being noted about it and I am confused on one issue. How is this particular race not able to happen more often when the metallic dragons already interact with humans and elves the most out of all other races when they assume human form? Like it even says in each metallic dragon's info that they love to interact with humans and elves. I will also admit that the traits need work. Perhaps instead of doing damage the Draconic roar can just inflict conditions.

Consider writing about how other races view them as well. The Players Handbook has a good section about how each race views the others. Specifically, talk about how Eldarin, who are usually outwardly haughty and xenophobic, view them? Where do they fit in the dragons Metalic vs Chromatic war and how are they viewed by each side? How do the playable races especially Elves and Dragonborn view them? Elves are looked down only marginally less by the Eldarin, who view them as the less fey siblings, do they share this same viewpoint? Also, consider why would a Drakiin become an adventurer? After becoming fully matured what do their draconic or Eldarin parents expect of them? Other than that more information on why exactly a timeless nigh immortal race of highly xenophobic people who rarely reproduce would mate with a dragon would help in making this race more believable as just because two races are near each other doesn't mean they're going to breed especially given the differences in culture and the fact that its a freaking dragon. --ConcealedLight (talk) 04:09, 11 April 2018 (MDT)

Oh my goodness thank you so much for your feedback! I was so stumped as to what was wrong with the race and needed someone to view it from a different angle! I will definitely work on the revisions you stated as soon as a can!

Just Something I Noticed[edit]

Hey there! I love the flavor of the race, and I really enjoyed reading over it. I just want to ask something, though- isn't this mechanically just a buffed version of the Dragonborn? It has the breath weapon and damage resistance of a Dragonborn, which is the only feature the dragonborn gets besides the Ability Score Increase, plus Darkvision, spellcasting, Fey Ancestry, and an extra language. In my eyes, this race, mechanically, is just a buffed version of the dragonborn.

Just a thought I had. --MarshDASavage (talk) 17:32, 21 April 2021 (MDT)

There is a decent number of races on the wiki and elsewhere who are essentially buffed versions of the dragonborn. This is because the dragonborn is frankly quite weak and/or has very situational traits. The dragonborn has two usable traits, the resistance which is unlikely to come up often, and a weak damaging aoe that you really needs to have 2 or more creatures in range to make it worth using(plus the damage type done could be resisted). Meanwhile most other 1st party races have a plethora of useful traits. The high elf has 7 usable traits, the hill dwarf has 6, ect. so even if some of the traits on other races are situational, you are going to get a lot more use out of the race as a whole.--Blobby383b (talk) 18:55, 21 April 2021 (MDT)
I guess that's fair. I do agree that Dragonborns are one of the weakest races. I just found it a bit weird at first glance that it took a first-party race and stuck some very good features on to it. The dragonborn is the weakest first-party race on the Musicus Meter (A score of 4.5), and, looking over it again later, this is a balanced race as a whole. I do love the flavor of it all, and it is a really cool race. It just seemed a bit odd to me at first glance. --MarshDASavage (talk) 20:25, 21 April 2021 (MDT)
