Talk:Dodge (DnD Variant Feat)
From D&D Wiki
Mechanics[edit]
Wouldn't it be easier if the feat would give a flat +1 dodge bonus to AC? After all, dodge bonuses stack. --Mkill 08:26, 13 June 2007 (MDT)
- I agree. Fixed it. --Green Dragon 12:59, 15 June 2007 (MDT)
- This is the house rule that I've always used in my campaigns. It is much easier to manage. Plus, the feat, as written in the PHB isn't a great choice by itself. In my campaigns, I have also made a few additional clarifications. For example, any time you would be denied your Dex bonus to AC, you are also denied this bonus as well (which is pretty standard for dodge bonuses). Also, if there is another feat with Dodge as a prerequisite, and that feat has an effect that is dependent upon having a target of the dodge feat, I require the players to indicate that target at the appropriate time. It rarely comes up, but once in a while it is important. --Skwyd 14:40, 10 September 2007 (MDT)
- I feel that all the points you brought up are very valid. You should change this feat to match the version you play with. --Green Dragon 17:03, 10 September 2007 (MDT)
- I added the requirement of a Dexterity of 13 or better because it wouldn't make a lot of sense for someone to have the ability to dodge attacks easily if they are very clumsy and that keeps it in line with the original feat. I noticed that you added back in the "multiple times" option. I don't really think that is a good idea. If this is a variant for the standard Dodge feat, it can be taken as a fighter bonus feat. That means that a 6th level human fighter that takes nothing but this Dodge variant for their feat choices would have a bonus of +8 to their AC, just from feats. I don't think that is what is intended from this feat. --Skwyd 15:18, 18 September 2007 (MDT)
- Okay, remove it. The only reason I added it back was because the reason it was removed was not stated. --Green Dragon 18:28, 18 September 2007 (MDT)
- Heh, you mean you couldn't read my mind and know why I removed it even though I said nothing about it at all?? Okay, I removed it and made a minor change to the verbiage for clarity. And one more thing --- AARRRRRRRRR!! Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day, Mateys! --Skwyd 09:09, 19 September 2007 (MDT)
