Edit War[edit]

If you disagree with any of my choices or just want to make a commit on this subclass you can put it here.

Hello Brostodes thank you for adding the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix but I doing Devil Fruit in order of appearance which mean I will not delete your Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix I just means I’ll move back in order just wanted to tell you and if you don’t agree with me please tell me. --Killer Queen (talk) 4:38, 25 March 2022 (MDT)

Killer Queen - Darkjester please explain what is wrong with my subclass . --Killer Queen (talk) 4:34, 7 March 2025

Darkjester to Killerqueen:

Sure

Core Issues:[edit]

  • Subclass Structure: The concept of applying this to any class without clear mechanical adaptation makes it feel like a bolt-on template rather than a subclass. It would be better as a feat tree, magic item progression based on user level, or a unique graft system.
  • Balance: The damage numbers are extremely inflated—5d20 + (x5) modifiers at mid-levels far outpaces official subclasses. This makes it unbalanced in most campaigns.
  • Redundancy & Bloat: Multiple techniques are just reskinned versions of each other with incremental damage increases. Consolidating them into fewer features with scaling options would streamline the design.
  • System Integration: Gear transformations read like class features, not subclass abilities—suggesting this could work better as an alternate progression path like a pact or transformation feature.

I'll do a full breakdown on just the first one but general suggestion is in verdict:

(Level 3 – Gomu Gomu no Mi, Rubber Rubber Human):[edit]

The feature basically introduces stretching as a movement concept, but it doesn't define how this interacts with existing mechanics. Here's what's missing or problematic:

Undefined Movement Type: Is the stretch a teleportation-like repositioning, or is it physical movement that provokes opportunity attacks? Without clarification, it's an entirely new movement paradigm that doesn't fit into 5e's existing rules.

Unbalanced Distance: A 75ft range at level 3 vastly outpaces all core movement options. For comparison, the Step of the Wind feature (Monk) caps at 60ft with resource cost, and most teleportation spells are around 30-60ft with much stricter limitations.

Immunity Overload: Immunity to three damage types at level 3 is too strong—especially bludgeoning (one of the most common physical damage types). No official subclass grants any damage immunity this early, let alone three.

Ambiguity in Stretch Mechanics: If you can stretch past enemies or through walls, does it bypass terrain? Can you grab items at range? These questions drastically impact both balance and how this ability would work in play.

Suggestion: Instead of introducing a brand-new type of movement, frame this as a special action (like Grappling Strike or Misty Step) with clear limits on range, line of sight, and frequency per rest. Immunities should be reduced to resistances and possibly delayed to higher levels.

Verdict[edit]

This is trying to be everything at once—subclass, magic system, magic items, and combat style—which makes it unwieldy. Rework it as a separate modular system, probably under magic items which can absolve the "anyone can use it", (Devil Fruit grafts + powers by level) and remove subclass tagging entirely. After that, each concept, and the level its granted needs to be independently reviewed next it its counterparts so a devil fruit user isn't outpacing its party members.

-end darkjester.

Killer Queen[edit]

Darkjester, thank you for caring so much about this page. I really don’t mean this sarcastically. I made this subclass when I was in middle school, and it was really fun. I put a lot of time into it, even though I wasn’t very good at it. So the fact that you care enough to want to improve it means a lot to me. I truly appreciate it.

That said, I’m not going to do what you’ve requested because I’m now in the later stages of high school. I have to focus on my grades, figure out colleges, and handle other “kid stuff.” The point is, I don’t really have the time to overhaul the whole thing right now, and I also care about this page, so I’m not just going to delete it either.

If you have problems with this page, I suggest editing it yourself, as long as you’re not completely changing everything. I’m fine with that. I also love when people add Devil Fruits or Devil Fruit variants. It’s fun to have a place where anyone can contribute.

To wrap things up, I really appreciate your input, and clearly, you’re better at making D&D content than I am. So, I suggest that you make a better version yourself or edit and revise mine if you want. Again, thank you! If I were to give any advice if you want to you don’t have to listen to me but I would suggest to keep it simple for more casual D&D players.

I do agree with the idea of Devil Fruit being a magic item granted that it is a fruit in the end that users eat and gain powers through. Given progression in the source material, you could make an argument of individual fruits as subclasses, but that only applies to certain main-character-level fruits. Most only have about one or two abilities that can be used in creative ways depending on their user. Having only the special ones be tiered with level as they gain additional stuff sounds interesting, perhaps of a higher rarity. --Yanied (talk) 03:27, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

Important Question[edit]

Hey, im going to make a One Piece setting in the wiki, so i was wondering if i could use the fruit sistem found in here? This subclass would still exist, but i would take things from here to add to the setting. -User:Xandelicious
