Talk:Death Bolt (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
It's not OP, I just feel that this could do with a bit more zz'az. Also we have already been provided with a ranged spell attack necromancy cantrip. So I'm getting the feeling that this was made in the aspect of MOAR damage or just a retyped firebolt (considering how common fire resistance is, this is actually more powerful than firebolt)...--Gr7mm Bobb (talk) 16:12, 9 September 2017 (MDT)
- Yes, we should expect new spells to something other than "it does X damage". Though I don't know if it's better than firebolt, as most undead creatures are resistant or immune to it. Marasmusine (talk) 16:20, 9 September 2017 (MDT)
- There aren't really all that many creatures with resistance to necrotic. From the MM alone in regards to fire resistance/immunity there 37/40. Necrotic is at a fraction of that sitting at only 11/11 (res/immune). That was my only point. In terms of potential of damage being dealt looking only at firebolt and death bolt, death bolt wins out in terms of actual damage dealt to each creature from the MM.--Gr7mm Bobb (talk) 15:01, 10 September 2017 (MDT)
- Although I'm not the original creator, I would like to say I would strongly prefer this spell remains mostly as it is. Even if it is just fire bolt with a different damage type, it near exactly mimics a spell used by a character in the video game Hyrule Warriors, and as such is an excellent cantrip for a class based in part on that character. - Guy (talk) 15:52, 10 September 2017 (MDT)
