Talk:Dark Double (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
One could cast this 6th-level spell and if one has, I dunno, wish prepared, the clone you create could cast wish with no repercussions to you — not even using up a spell slot. Even with less severe examples it seems to be able to cast any spells you've prepared, even other 6th-level spells, at no additional cost.
As written, magic items and their charges are duplicated as well.
Without more explicit limitations this spell is by definition stronger than any other spell because it can cast any other spell for free and so much more. I'm not sure a spell like this could ever be balanced, but preventing magic item duplication would be a start. Maybe if resources like spell slots and ki were shared between yourself and the double as well...? It gets pretty messy. I don't have a good idea of how to make this spell reasonable, but maybe its effect could be given instead to a legendary magic item? - Guy 15:07, 8 August 2024 (MDT)
I'm the one who refreshed the wording, just based on what I deciphered for the wording. But it would copy you in the current state, not at full power. And it's an illusion, so nothing will remain after the duration. I agree that more limitations are needed, as the resources can be a bit iffy, but it does not duplicate anything physical that can be kept. Takinn one of the items off the illusion would cause it to vanish. - [Anonymous] 8 August 2024
