Balance[edit]

I've fixed a lot of the terminology, but the random table needs looking it. Considering the creator will be 17th level or greater, these "penalties" are not at all severe or can be avoided (by acid/fire resistance, or immediately healing the damage, etc). Should also be clearer what spells can be used in a continuous tattoo (to avoid the ol' continuous true strike --M

I think you missed what Caster Level 9th means - it means that the character has 9 levels in a spellcasting class. Not that they can cast 9th level spells. The penalties in and of themselves were not intended to be extremely severe, just a bit painful. Characters that invest in avoiding the potential bad effects, well, more power to them - the tattoos are still non-magical, so basically a lot of wasted effort on their part. As to which spells can be made continuous, that is up to the DM to adjudicate - there are to many spells to list them all and to many variables to try and list variables. Does this answer your concerns? --Calidore Chase (talk) 08:23, 3 May 2015 (MDT)
I did misread it exactly as you said, thankyou. For the continuous spells, it could be a criteria such as "spells with a duration of 1 minute or longer", this would rule out true strike but keep in things like bull's strength? Marasmusine (talk) 09:51, 3 May 2015 (MDT)
I have to admit this feat was mostly an attempt to fix the other Craft Magic Tattoo feat, which wasn't all that useful in my opinion. I wish I had the time to devote to an analysis of what would be good limiting criteria for continuous spells, although the duration thing may work. Would have to see what spells it prevents, granted if you think about the duration of true strike can technically be greater than one minute as the effect lasts until your next attack.... --Calidore Chase (talk) 02:24, 4 May 2015 (MDT)
I must have been cranky the day I wrote the above. I think your suggestion of making it a base requirement of the spell to have a duration of 1 minute or longer is a good one, other spells would be on a case by case adjudication by the individual DM. --Calidore Chase (talk) 00:49, 22 October 2015 (MDT)
Do you think the price of the permanent ones should have a base price of Spell level * Caster level * 2000gp? --Calidore Chase (talk) 18:57, 15 December 2015 (MST)

Relook[edit]

Marasmusine care to take a look at it again? --Calidore Chase (talk) 00:54, 22 October 2015 (MDT)
