Talk:Clockwork (5e Race Variant)

ConcealedLight, This is not a race. It is meant as a variant available to any number of base races. It makes no sense to put it as a base race because there is not enough info to play this alone. This variant only makes sens when added to another race, as it was intended. Zibby (talk) 03:32, 20 April 2018 (MDT)

I would instead suggest that the race variant page needs an option that has variants that work with multiple races. Zibby (talk) 03:34, 20 April 2018 (MDT)
A race variant swaps some specific racial features for other features. A clockwork elf isn't an elf, it's a construct shaped like an elf. I think this would be better off as a template. Marasmusine (talk) 05:02, 20 April 2018 (MDT)
I've seen a number of races that do something similar but are listed as a race. Are you telling me that those pages should be moved to templates? (eg: Ghost (5e Race)). Regardless of those points given the traits, it would get, the race would be overpowered compared to any first party races you use it with. In addition, from a formatting point of view, it should probably still use the 5e race template. --ConcealedLightThis user is an administrator (talk) 05:31, 20 April 2018 (MDT)

I am unsure how to change this to a template, but if anyone knows how to, I would appreciate assistance. I think template is the best place for this since it can be applied to a character of any race. Zibby (talk) 04:10, 8 June 2018 (MDT)

Try using the half-dragon as an example. In 5e templates are really only used for monsters and NPCs that the DM controls, as opposed to in 3.x where they could also be applied to player characters. I really think this would be best as a standalone race. — Geodude Chatmod.png (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 23:09, 11 June 2018 (MDT)
Thanks, I'm working on putting up variants for the base races now. Once complete, anyone should be able to pick a variant and build a clockwork easily enough without having to refer to another race. Zibby (talk) 02:43, 16 June 2018 (MDT)
