I am Groot

i fail to see the way it AC work, unless they take the barbarian class or any other class that give you an AC bonus, this race AC is going to be 13 top. for that i suggest that it get a similar ability to Unarmored Defense. Azernath (talk) 21:07, 11 January 2015 (MST)

Yeah, that was a really early version of "The Cleansed" that I was still trying to hammer out the correct wording and trying to find a good balance with the other existing races. This current one is good, I think. --Davmaldo (talk) 06:46, 12 January 2015 (MST)

I really like these guys, but I don't really know about the scaling damage on the vine whip. Speaking of which, Briar Blast should probably scale. I normally compare stuff like this to how the dragonborn's breath attack works. Also, the AC thing... I'unno. D'you reckon that works better than the Barbarian thing I did with the Mimic (5e Race)? Are there actually a whole lot of reasons to not let them wear armor? :/ Regular humanoids come in different shapes and sizes, and I don't really think these guys need the complication; they're plenty complicated enough. As far as basing them off Groot, consider that Groot is basically a Cleansed Vine Blight Barbarian. He doesn't need armor, not because of a racial feature (although the laser-proof bush thing is a bit ridiculous, not to mention OP for a hypothetical racial feature), but because of a class feature; he's just that much a berserker. I love the premise and the concept, this would make an awesome adventurer. However, I am rather concerned about the Thorned Vine Whip feature, which might be a bit too strong for an unarmed strike. (Notice that the monk's unarmed strikes are, at best, d10.) Maybe it could be a little lower at the damage, but with some extra features, like knocking prone the target on a hit (with a bonus action, perhaps?), grappling it, or dragging it closer to the cleansed vine.

Other than that... I find this extremely awesome, no doubt. I cannot wait to get this baby in my session. --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 08:42, 22 February 2017 (MST)

@Marasmusine, re: "I can't think of a case where a character wouldn't have better melee and ranged options than the needle throw, so I'm changing it." That would be any case wherein the character was bereft of actual weapons, such as in cases where an aarakocra (Elemental Evil) or tabaxi (Volo's) would actually use their claws (which are melee d4s, way worse than 20/60 ranged d6s, but still good enough to be a class feature; also compare the minotaur (Unearthed Arcana: Waterborne)'s d10 horns with the racial charge ability, for more powerful natural weapons). Those do happen now and then. The Adventurer's League campaign I'm in, Out of the Abyss, actually started with such a situation; we started in a drow prison with no weapons or armor.
Not gonna lie, though, I don't not like your one-triple-shot-per-rest idea. :/ Knowlessman (talk) 05:27, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
