Talk:Changeling, 2nd Variant (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
\\Howdy.
The race already has FOUR benefits, most only get 3 - try to keep the balance. Do NOT keep adding features. If you want to suggest one get changed out - go for it.
If you want to add its doppelganger heritage - warlock 1 level dip for the detect thought ability. Eberron's changelings **did not** have psionic powers. They were adept at spycraft because of their shapeshifting.
Musicus Rating[edit]

I'm the original author, removing the additional speed, in light of the scoring that prompted my attention. They don't need the speed increase (i also think the 1.5 rating for situational advantage is a bit steep, but let's remove that to get the score down if need be.)
- Please remember to sign your comments with a ~~~~ and when you make an edit to a page with an embedded musicus ratings for each trait, edit them in accordance with the changes you've made. In regards to giving them the Actor feat, expertise is worth 0.5 per each skill, advantage is worth the same so two skills each worth 0.5 is worth 1. Then their mimic ability is worth 0.5. The total coming to 1.5. ConcealedLight (talk) 17:02, 16 January 2018 (MST)
Thank you.
I like the system it reminds me of the Racial construction guide by Karl David Brown.
You have an advantage on Charisma (Deception) and Charisma(Performance) checks when trying to pass yourself off as a different person.
- You can mimic the speech of another person or the sounds made by other creatures. You must have heard the person speaking, or heard the creature make the sound, for at least 1 minute. A successful Wisdom (Insight) check contested by your Charisma(Deception) check allows a listener to determine that the effect is faked.
Please consider the nature of it is advantage (not expertise) so its value doesn't scale after a few levels mathematically, and it is limited to the deception of portraying another person - not lying about an event - it's just mimicry so that there is a mechanical explanation for the shapechanging to be effective (and that it requires a conditional, close continued observation which I believe was longer, like... 10 minutes to an hour, but I've not checked that as this race got sort of overpowered and I've only recently revisited such. --Modnar (talk) 18:17, 16 January 2018 (MST)
