Talk:Champion Archer (5e Feat)
This is what a 5e feat should look like, a nice bundle of flavourful effects. Marasmusine (talk) 11:21, 5 November 2016 (MDT)
- Agreed! Should the prerequisite be reduced to the standard 13 that the PHB uses? Or do you think a higher prerequisite is necessary? Carcabob (talk) 12:18, 5 November 2016 (MDT)
- Per WoTC, feat prerequistes should be inclusive as possible, I would lower it. Marasmusine (talk) 13:02, 5 November 2016 (MDT)
Looking back at this feat, it's quite complex...thoughts on this rework?:
- When you have advantage on a ranged attack with a shortbow or longbow, you can add your Strength modifier to the damage roll.
- You have learned to use your bow in acrobatic maneuvers. You have advantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks while carrying a shortbow or longbow.
- You can attempt to intercept an opponent's ranged weapon attack with one of your own. When a creature that you can see makes a ranged weapon attack against another creature that you can see, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll if both creatures are within your weapon's normal range. (Boulders hurled by giants or siege engines, and similar projectiles, are unaffected)
For the first point, keeping track of whether the enemy has disadvantage on Dexterity checks or saves seems complicated. Having advantage on ranged attack rolls is already usually because the target can't move very well, and adding to damage rolls instead of attack rolls is a way to help keep bounded accuracy in effect.
For the second point, I don't think conditional proficiency is something 5e does anywhere. Again, I think advantage is just a simple way to address this. It might pushing it, but I think it might be better than conditional proficiency.
For the last point, while it might be fun to compete with their attack roll, it's a lot more math. Disadvantage seems a lot simpler.
