Talk:Chain Cloth (5e Equipment)

Is this based on anything historical? Marasmusine (talk) 02:58, 26 June 2017 (MDT)
Not really, I just thought it would make sense as an armour design.

Balance: AC categories[edit]
Light armor is at most AC 17, and that assumes maxing out Dexterity with an amazing 20.
Medium armor is at most AC 17, ant that assumed investing in Dexterity.
Heavy armor is at most AC 18, and in core material cannot readily be equaled by anything short of a magic item or optional rules. Even class features can't match that without heavy ability score investment.
This armor threatens that balance. In 5e, what was once a "mere" +1 to AC is now huge. You otherwise can't get this much AC from medium armor unless it's a rare +1 half plate that requires attunement. Unless this armor can provide an interesting niche, I don't really think it should exist without being a magic item. - Guy (talk) 09:30, 26 November 2017 (MST)
