Talk:Bundled Feats (3.5e Variant Rule)

I like the idea, but I have a little problem with it. Would you gain a feat from the bundle ever time you would gain a feat. Because lets at first level you start a bundle then at third you start another bundle, would you gain 2 feats that level? Then at 6th level would you gain 3 feats, one from the 1st level, 3rd level, and 6th level? If so you would have the possibility of gaining up to 7 feats at 18th level. A little less because of the limit you put on the amount of feats in a bundle, but non the less that seems a little much. Non of the feats in 3.5 ed. I have seen provide those kinds of bonuses. -Sarrow 18:07, 10 March 2009 (MDT)
- As it is right now, you are completely correct. The idea is that the feats are not so great so you really aren't getting a huge bonus as you level.
- Suppose you take Tough Guy at 1st level, Evader at 3rd level, Quick Fighter at 6th level, Trailblazer at 9th level, and Olympian at 12th level because you are a combat character.
- You get +3 HP at first level
- You get Endurance (fairly useless most of the time) and +1 AC against one opponent at a time at 3rd level
- You get Die Hard (good for stabilization sorta), +4 AC when moving through threatened squares (a decent ability), and quick draw (draw weapons as a free action) at 6th level
- You can now heal better when taking a rest, +2 jump and +2 tumble, deflect arrows (useless unless you are a monk and monks get it as a bonus feat), Track (decent ability) at 9th level
- Okay I'm tired of making the list :P. Anyways, the point is, by the time the bundle provides enough abilities to be pretty powerful, you have enough magic items/class abilities that completely overshadow it. The bundle is just a supplement to your character. It also gives a chance for you to pick those nice early game feats without feeling like you wasted a feat completely later on. --Aarnott 21:47, 10 March 2009 (MDT)
- Another question is if these can be taken as fighter feats? If so I think that this variant would be a little to powerful. If not, I see what you mean. About deflect arrows, doesn't that require you have improved unarmed strike to gain access to. Also the run link is to the action of running and not the feat run, just thought that I would let you know. -Sarrow 00:06, 11 March 2009 (MDT)
- Feat bundles can only be taken as your feat for gaining a level. They can't be taken as any kind of bonus feat (including a human bonus feat). You are right about deflect arrows. I might just have to add Improved Unarmed Strike (which is a pretty weak feat anyways) to that bundle. --Aarnott 09:34, 11 March 2009 (MDT)
- O.K., you may want to state that in the text of the variant so that this does not get abused. Thanks for answering my questions. -Sarrow 12:10, 11 March 2009 (MDT)
- I don't really see how it's abusable even if you take it as a bonus feat. The feats all suck anyway. Surgo 12:39, 11 March 2009 (MDT)
- I did. I just wrote it in a confusing way -- I will reword it. Thanks for your comments by the way! I was pretty unsure about the balance of this thing myself when I wrote it. --Aarnott 12:37, 11 March 2009 (MDT)
