Adjudicating the Damage Type[edit]
Since this spell is of the water effect type, its not fire damage, even though it is hot. A DM may adjudicate that it is fire damage anyhow on a case by case basis. Though, I'd just like to point out that I personally don't feel that it counts as fire damage. Afterall, since its water, it would hurt a fire subtype creature, but would it deal the extra damage to a cold subtype creature? Thoughts? --Ganteka 01:08, 28 October 2008 (MDT)
- Well, there is no water energy descriptor in D&D, so your best bet would be to make it fire and have it ignore X points of fire resistance. --Aarnott 09:38, 28 October 2008 (MDT)
- How about, creatures with the fire subtype take half damage?--Ganteka 13:25, 28 October 2008 (MDT)
- Make sure to say "half damage ignoring fire resistance" if you do that. It seems balanced that way, comparing trade-offs to a similar spell Flaming Sphere (which I'm sure you already had in mind). --Aarnott 17:14, 28 October 2008 (MDT)
- I know I'm REALLY late, but this spell would function beautifully for an underwater Warmage. --Cirrina 00:30, 24 April, 2013 (GMT)
- actually there is a specific type for this, it would deal Scalding damage, it basically bypasses almost every know resistance too 7:35 oct 12 2014 pst btw sry im late to the party
