Talk:Epic Levels, Ascension, Godhood, and Divine Rank (5e Variant Rule)
From D&D Wiki
Hi! I found this page unfinished on the wiki and decided that I'd roll up my sleeves and get to work on it. -- wizardofaus
- Happy to see more users working on sorta-abandoned pages! By the way, avoid bluelinking to the 3.5 SRD, if you can? This is a 5e page. --SwankyPants (talk) 11:36, 26 January 2021 (MST)
Not a problem, will fix. --wizardofaus
Plagiarism[edit]
Hi I would like to point out that the epic classes are copied from Gerard Shore's Epic Level Handbook, which is copyrighted and not free to use.
- This is a serious concern. Do you have more information? Which parts exactly are copied? Are they exact clones, or do they merely follow the same format? The more information to provide, the sooner this can be taken care of. Thank you for your time. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 13:54, 27 January 2021 (MST)
- I have looked through most of the level 20+ content for 5e,and I can provide more context.First of all,the Epic Level Handbook is not available for sale anymore,at some point it was repackaged in the Epic Options handbook, which contains all of the level 20+ classes along with more options for characters over level 20.An important note is that the handbook itself takes heavy inspiration from this giantitp forum post from 2015 .And this set of features takes inspiration from both, picking which source they use at different levels, along with having their own features at some levels. For a more "comprehensive" look,I will describe the barbarian level 21-30 features, and list their "sources"
- Level 21: Faster Movement,Epic boon - This is in both the original forum post and the Epic options book.
- Level 22:Brutal Critical (4 dice) - This is in both the original forum post and the Epic options book.
- Level 23:Epic Boon - This is from the Epic options book, the giantitp post had an ASI here
- Level 24:Battleborn - This is an original feature,it borrows it's name from the level 30 feature from giantitp, but it has different effects
- Level 25:Epic Racial Abiltiy,Epic Boon -This is from the Giantitp forums, the Epic options book has another feature here, but the epic boon is still there
- Level 26:Barbaric Freedom - This is from the Epic Options book.
- Level 27: Epic Boon - This is from the Epic options book, the giantitp post had an ASI here
- Level 28:Brutal Critical (5 dice) - This is from the Epic Options book, the giantitp post had a similar ability called "Superior Critial" for level 28
- Level 29:Blindsight,Epic Boon - This is from the giantitp post, the Epic Optiosn has another feature, though it still gives an epic boon at this level
- Level 30:Furious Retribution,Death Save Advantage - Furious Retribution is taken from Epic Options , the death save advantage is taken from the giantitp post.
- You can chek the Epic Options' barbarian features by clicking "Full-size Preview" on dmsguild. All in all it's complicated, the classes do have some original parts (barbarian has the fewest original features from a glance),but mostly they take from 2 different sources, and one of them took from the other, and one's free and the other one isn't.It's up to individual judgement if this is "bad enough" to warrant deletion. But if it does get deleted,I would at least wish that the "Ascension, Godhood, and Divine Rank " parts can still survive,as they are not copying any paid source (I didn't look a lot but they may be copying this or/and converting the 3e "Deities and Demigods" supplement).Hope this helped

- That does indeed help quite a bit, and with that information I would determine that the contents of this page are different enough not to warrant deletion, especially since the copyrighted work in question took from a freely available source for most of its content. I'll remove the deletion template accordingly. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 00:49, 28 January 2021 (MST)
Artificers.[edit]
Could you guys add one for the artificer class? I'd like to see what an artificer would be like.
Questions regarding seemingly-unfinished Salient Abilities[edit]
Hello,
The contents of this page are greatly appreciated and have done wonders in an ongoing campaign I'm participating in. That being said, it appears that a number of the Salient Abilities are either incomplete in contents or mechanics. Clearsight and Divine Blessing come to mind. While I would attempt to complete the Salient Abilities myself, I would rather provide a message here before making any changes to see if there are any other contributors who may have contributed to this page in the past to make sure there will be no conflicts with making changes. Thank you!
